Default Intel Q6700 or AMD 965 BE?

I've been given the choice of picking up an unused AMD 965 x4 C3 revision + GA-880GMA-UD2H motherboard.

From what I've gathered, they're 3.4ghz stock and are capable of clocking up to 3.8-4.0ghz?

Anyhow, the current Q6700 I have can run 3-3.2ghz at 1.25v, it'll hit 3.6-3.8ghz also.

Basically, if they were both running the same clock speeds; which setup am I better going with? Or is the difference minimal?

It would seem that the 965 edges out a little bit in front of the Q6600 clock for clock. This combined with the fact that the 965 runs 3.4ghz stock and clocks up to 3.8-4.0ghz has made it the keeper in my choice!

Better off getting the 965. However it does put you into abit of a dead end. Unless your getting the components really cheap, i'd say get an upgrade for your 775 (Q9650? (not sure if thats correct) or go for a 1155 setup.

the 965 is definitely the better choice but there is limited upgrade options down the track, if you have a good cooler you should push 4.2ghz (with a 212+ you should hit 4ghz pretty easily) which would give you a pretty nice setup.

However if you do need anything more you will find yourself forking out for a 1155/am3+ board pretty quickly.

what do you plan on doing with this pc?

Instructions-Per-Clock (IPC) is *not* the same as Performance-Per-Clock
Intel 100w TDP =/= AMD 100w TDP

I've got both systems at home, one will be for my partner and the other will be my own. Not too concerned regarding upgrading, since my next upgrade will be purchasing Sandy/Ivy bridge. For the meantime I'm just making do with what we've got at the moment.

PC will be used for gaming, and I'm hoping to clock that boy to 4ghz with a Thermalright Ultra + 2x120mm fans in a case that contains another 5x 120mm fans.
