I bought one from JB HI Last week for $3599. The six digit of the serial number is in a ''1" from the batch that I got, however, JB assured me that in the event that there's issues, I can swap it for a brand new one.

Do you mind telling me whether you can identify the serial number from the box or is it only visible on the camera?

There ought to be about $1k in that at RRP I would think... $50 Margins on $4000 products is what they do to themselves when selling TV's when they slash the prices the way they do... Z...

Very slim, but not out of the question I guess... Certainly not $50, that is for sure.

If you work in the sales field of camera's you think you would know about this sort of stuff. He had noooooo clue. All He said about it was "whats the RRP on their site say?"

Hence the reason online is the way to go. What do bricks and motar stores offer? Nothing to me.

For the Genpop, who know fuck all, the sales guys generally know a bit about everything, usually the entry/low level stuff, which is fine for them, plus the ability to go in, say I want to do xyz, the sales guys make some generalised recommendation, they give them money, get the product then and there and then go on their merry way. (as opposed to us who research every little thing and take weeks to make a decision on what suits us (most of the time it's rational, right? ) best. Can't expect all the sales staff to know everything about every little thing on every camera (especially pro cameras) etc etc. That being said, i've found the guys at my local Camerahouse are really quite knowledgeable (had a chat to one of the guys one time, let me play around with the X100, talked about how he shot with zeiss primes, and called the Sigma 50mm 1.4 the Sigmalux.... i'd say hes one of us ). The guys at Photocontinental and CameraPro are also really good, but I think they're a bit different to just going to your standard Ted's/JB/Harvey Norman etc etc.*shrugs*

In reply to Modafroman's post... I buy most of my gear from camerasdirect (pick up, I live on the Gold Coast) and the people there really do know more than entry level or even intermediate stuff. I think all of them are photographers themselves and I can't say I've ever had a problem with them either related to something I purchased or just for general advice (I emailed the owner when I was researching macro lenses and there was no sales BS and he just explained the facts; he even advised me against the 60mm macro, which is of course much more expensive than the 100mm, because at the time I was new to macro... can't beat that I reckon)

Anyone made the jump from 5D2 --> 5D3 and would like to comment on whether they thought it was worth the extra dosh?
Or point me in the direction of a post in this thread that I've missed? Ta
