I prefer soft grads as It suits what I shoot more.

I prefer stronger (2/3/4) stops and the 10 is fine.

Looks ok to me

Not much wrong there.

I bought a 0.6 hard and 0.9 soft. If you did seascapes I can see the 0.9 hard being more useful but around where I shoot there's lots of mountains so I went with the soft.

If I were you, I'd go for the 0.6 and 0.9 in both hard and soft. Otherwise, get a set of soft's and one hard if you do landscapes, or a set of hards and one soft if you do seascapes. The 0.3 is pretty useless, although you can stack it but I never use mine.

I have the hard set, a 0.9 hard grad, the 105mm circular polariser and the Big Stopper.

Hmm i much prefer softs for seascapes.. for most things really due to not always having a static horizon to shoot.

Hard to say, anything you buy and want to sell will be easy to flog at least.

I reckon hards can be useful for seascapes, but that said the softs are much more versatile.

Also don't discount Formatt/Hitech or Cokin for the filter holder, both produce a holder that is cheaper than the Lee and arguably just as good.

In addition in lieu of actually being able to get the Lee big stopper consider the Hitech one, it seems to have relatively good reviews (and hopefully won't have the odd doubling issue that my Lee ND8 had). Hopefully mine will arrive before the weekend so i can play with it while I'm away.

I've got the following Lee filters:

0.3, 0.6 and 0.9 soft edge grads (bought in a kit)
0.9 hard edge grad
Big stopper

I basically don't use the 0.3 soft edge or the 0.9 hard edge much at all. I use the 0.9 soft edge the most of the grads, and the 0.6 if I want to stack them.

The extra filters I want to get are a 4 stop ND (when 10 stops is too much), a 4 stop soft edge grad and a 4 stop reverse ND grad (Singh-Ray though, as the Hitech one is crap).

I have 0.3, 0.6 and 0.9 hard Grads as thats all that was in stock when I purchased ~18 months ago. The hard grads can be annoying sometimes so I wouldn't mind getting a few soft. I wouldn't bother with a 0.3...I hardly use mine (although still do ocassionally). I'd get a 0.6 and 0.9 soft and then either a 0.6 or 0.9 hard.

Hrm, ok thanks guys

I think I might get a 0.6 hard, and either a 0.6 or 0.9 soft to start with and see how I go from there.

Considering the Big Stopper is on a 10-14 week waiting list, I might give it a miss for the moment, maybe another brand? or a less dense ND? Hrm.

I think Teamworkphoto ends up being cheaper overall.

Not really worth getting anything but the Lee for slide in.

Unless you get a screw in B+W or the like (they have heaps .. 6/10/13/20 stoppers now)

Rarely would you stack a 10 stop with a GND mind you, well I havent really felt the need to at least that often

From all the reviews the Hitech Pro 10stop is basically as good as the Lee, with the gasket too. Oh and about half the price tag, and it's available.

Illmdo a review thingy of it when mine arrives.

Sweet

I disliked my old one muchly, and the other newer Hitech grads arent much chop (reviews are ok, but personally dislike the results with them).

Is the new Hitech version glass? Because the Lee Big Stopper is glass.. I had the old Hitech 10 stop filter (resin), and its crapola. In fact I think I still have it stashed away in a cupboard somewhere, don't think I'd want to inflict its crap-ness on anyone else.

Hitech use a resin, but either way, the resin itself wont change the colour cast of it.

All of the reviews ive seen of both of them (Lee and Hitech) indicate that they both have a variety of colour casts depending on the batch.

This review here is helpful and has side by side photos of both: http://blog.robertstrachan.com/archi...o-stop-review/

Personally i wanted one to be able to do some stuff in the short term, and there are absolutely no stocks of the Lee filters that i could find locally. I did however find a second hand Hitech for under half the price of the Lee, so im grabbing that and will see how it goes.
