Uncertain which way to go for a media streaming NAS / download box.
I am thinking about getting an N40L and have been reading up on it. I have a few questions if anyone is able to answer. I know you can only do raid 1 and 0. I am planning to use UNraid as my OS. Is the writing performance loss as bad as people say due to the parity disk? What is the most amount of disks you can fit in it? This includes putting a disk where the ODD is etc. Is 2TB the biggest HDD that can be read? I basically want to an build an UNraid NAS with ~ 10 TB of space, for streaming 1080p to 1 or 2 sources. ( WD TV Live / PS3 / HTPC with XBMC ). I also want it to be my downloader box on 24/7 for sabnzbd and sickbeard/couchpotato. I am also toying with the idea of building a NAS from scratch. If anyone has setup an hp microserver with UNraid I would love to hear how it performs, thanks

Performance figures using UnRAID and 5 x 2TB Hitachi 5K3000 HDDs are in my post on page 348 of the thread Stanza linked. Mine is an N36L but N40L would have similar performance.
