In practice you may save 0.8W during idle or a massive 1.4W during H264 playback:

A few factors actually. Mainly the fact that the case I'm getting is designed around this motherboard (as well as a few others) and the price was right (about $120)

Also, with the processor, lower power means lower heat, which is very important for this build

My PC has made its way off the desk and into the lounge room these days.

Triple display output to 2 x LCD displays @ 19" and 22" and 1 x plasma display @ 42".

Freeview is handled by HD-DVB tuner box. And all other media, eg. DVDs, AVI's, XviD's etc. are thrown out by the PC onto the 42" using Media Player Classic and the K-Lite Codec Package which handles anything with ease and awesome quality.

Digital media is all stored in my 1TB external hard drive.

Video output from the PC to the plasma is via S-Video and also handles all my gaming capabilities with awesome quality results.

Audio between the PC and my STB is handled via the audio switch box and outputs to my little LG system which acts as the receiver. Nothing fancy really. But works a treat with pleasant audio experience @ 2.0 output.

I've posted in the WTB section as well, but if anyone in Adelaide has a spare Antec Fusion remote case hanging around, let me know.

now that i've gotten my i5 build up and running (with still a few apps left to install) i decided to take my old PC (the C2Q Q6600) and convert it into an HTPC. the first thing was the case: I had it in an iCute case for nearly 4 years and I decided it got a bit cruddy and old, nor very HTPC like (might throw that case out or sell it) so i bought an NZXT Phantom 410 mid tower case (was hoping to get the H2 but can't find any that i could just pick up and walk out the door with).

so the afternoon involves me disassembling the PC from the its iCute enclosure and putting them back into the NZXT case. it took me a few hours (was about 5pm by the time i was done) to complete the rebuild and now i have a functioning HTPC...I am waiting on my lenovo/phillips MCE remote to be sent to me so i can use it without the keyboard. I also still have to install my 2TB HDD with all my video files on it and get xbmc working.

EDIT: the HTPC also connects through my AV receiver with no problems.

Because I use an X1050 video card and it only has 1 x DVI, 1 x VGA and 1 x S-Video. So it's all that's available to me.

TBH, I love the quality that S-Video produces and am super happy with it.

Use a DVI to HDMI converter..
pretty sure it won't do the sound, but the video will be much much better

I think it makes sense to get a case that suits the lounge room. One that looks like an Amp etc.
i'm going for the Antec Fusion Black unless something else pops up before i make my move..

As for HDD's, just get what you need as you need them, you can always add more later in one way or another.. sata, esata, usb etc

The only issue with the Antec fusion black is limited room for full sized HDD's, however you could fit an SSD for the OS and two 2TB HDD's no probs.

Apart from that the Antec fusion is the best HTPC case I've used to date, perfectly designed and awesome quality (and I'm on my 4th dedicated HTPC case).
