Default Additional Modifications

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread so far. Here are some random photos of additional modifications I have made to the TJ07 lately...

Fill port using a bitspower case top fill set.

A potential tubing layout for the pump, radiator and drain port in the lower chamber. This is with the drain port directly underneath the reservoir.

An alternative layout with the drain port at the front of the case which is more desirable but requires more fittings and uses more space.

Drilling out holes for the case feet.

Bottom of the case with the MNPCTech case feet fitted.

Drilling out holes for the 8 pin EPS cable and for the twin 92mm exhaust fans.

I ended up drilling two holes for the EPS cable since their location varies based on the motherboard layout. At this stage I have not selected the motherboard I am going with so the aim was to make it compatible with several motherboards that I have my eye on.

Looks fucking nice.

Turning to a very beautiful mod, loving the cleanness and silveryness of the whole build

that some insane pipework around that D5 mate. Really diggin it..
Alternative layout looks better, due to the extra blingyness of it all. Looks complex and technical. i like it

This is a just a small update on my project. I have spent most of my time procrastinating over the hardware that will go into this build, in particular the CPU, motherboard and graphics cards. For the CPU I have decided to go with the Intel 3930K and for the CPU block I decided to go with the EK Supreme HF Full Nickel but with a slight twist, I also got a silver mounting plate to go with it. Here are the before and after shots...

Another shot of the waterblock...

Now to work out what graphics cards I am going with... The choice is in between the GTX 680 SLI and 7970 Crossfire. Judging by a recent poll on the Video Cards & Monitors forum it looks like the GTX 680 SLI is the way to go. The waterblock I will most likely go with will be the Koolance VID-NX680. It isn't the greatest looking block around but I am aiming for as much silver/nickel bling in my build as possible. If only Aqua Computer would release a nickel plated version of the Aquagrafx 680 block...

Koolance block. It would be ideal if the stainless steel cover covered the entire block!

For the GPU backplate the natural choice is the Heatkiller GPU backplate as it is the only silver coloured backplate currently available. Does anybody know whether I will have any compatibility issues using the koolance block with the heatkiller backplate?

In theory they should both use the same holes, as they are limited to the holes in the card itself, but I can't really confirm anything, and one might be missing a hole that the other requires.

That could be the only problem I can see too...

Thanks for the compliment! Feel free to use any of my ideas a most of them were gained from browsing other builds in this forum. Here are some links to other builds (mostly using TJ07) that I have adapted my ideas from:

Yeah that is what I thought myself. However it looks like I may delay the graphics card purchase for a while longer. The GTX 670 has pretty much made the GTX 680 redundant from an availability and price to performance perspective.

The options I am considering at this point of time:
  • 2 x Sapphire Radeon HD7970 3GB @ $509 with Koolance VID-AR797 waterblock, Heatkiller backplate and Single Slot Bracket
  • 2 x Gigabyte GeForce GTX 670 2GB @ $469 (uses 10" GTX 680 PCB) with EK Full Cover VGA Block Acetal+EN Nickel waterblock and Heatkiller backplate
  • 2 x Reference GTX 670 2GB (7" PCB) with a yet to be determined waterblock

Power usage and heat difference between the cards is not a concern. Performance to price ratio and driver quality are the main criteria for chossing the graphics card. Also note that I will using a 2560x1600 (4MP) resolution for gaming.

I have finally purchased some of the hardware for my project. As the pic shows I will be using a 3930K with ASUS P9X79 Pro and 32GB of G.Skill Ares 2133Mhz DDR3 RAM.

Some additional parts I will be using. Fan controller, HDD rack and bay covers.

Installation of the motherboard and to check some of the cable routing. I'm waiting to see what the reference 670 blocks look like before purchasing the graphics cards.

Proposed link between reservoir and CPU.

It's hard to tell from the pics but what is the maximum length graphics card you can put in there?

Also you'll have to be careful and check whether it has side or backward facing PCIE connectors.

Maximum length graphics card I can put in there is about 11 inches but that would be a tight fit. I should have no issue with the size of the graphics cards I am considering and all of them have side facing connectors. The 7970 is 10.5 inches (without the stock heatsink), the GTX 680 is 10 inches.

Those holes that you cut make the entire build look clean. Must have a steady hand to cut them with an angle grinder.
