I've got a q6600 that I would love to re-birth anyone know if there are mini-itx boards that support ddr3?

I played Diablo 3 beta fine on the Q6600 clocked up to 3.2ghz. It only seems to run 2 threads that I noticed, so a dual core should be alright if you turn physics down a bit. I left most of my settings on high except for Anti-Aliasing since my AMD 5770 wasnt really coping with it well. Apparently an upgrade to a GTX570 rips through it though. This is on 1 monitor @ 2048 x 1152, Q6600 clocked at 3.2ghz, 8gb RAM and 120gb intel 520 SSD.

I didnt really care if the shadows were fuzzy. The game play is so fast paced and barbarian skill to explode monsters during cleave (using a rune) pretty much fills the screen with monster body parts flying everywhere.

Diablo 3 beta was easy to run, had no trouble with 60fps at 2560x1440 maxed on my x4 965, hd 5850, 4gb ddr2

Still have my Q6600 3.6ghz (1.4v), Asus p5k-E ddr2-4gb, H50 cooler, ati5850, (gradually upgraded) since 08. Still a monster although I am in the process of building a new machine(either Sandy or Ivy).
Awesome chip.

Yeah I've got a Q6600, upgraded to it from E7300 because I got it cheap and the E7300 wouldn't run BF3 well enough. Turns out I can play BF3 with a 6870, Q6600 and 4GB of DDR2 ram on all high settings without any issues, even on multiplayer. I'm stoked. If I chuck in another 6870 I'll be able to do ultra, only cost another $100 for a second hand card.

Yep, I am still on a 6600. Plan on upgrading some time later in the year. I've been waiting on the latest tech to come out. So far this beast still does quite well. I did the same thing as you, I recently added a new Vertex SSD (which I plan to use in the new system later on) and I've got to say that it's really brought the PC back to life. It feels pretty awesome.

Here's my ranking score:

Got a 9800GTX, 4GB OCZ DDR2 RAM, DS3L Mobo. I've not overclocked it as each time I've had some reliability issues with it. Though I did have it sit on around 2.8Ghz for 2 years or so, no problems at all. Best investment so far is definitely the SSD. Recommend it to anyone wanting a boost from an old beast New system shortly though I think.

Still rockin my Q6600, only thing I am looking at upgrading is the HDD to a SSD.

Other wise it runs everything I do perfectly.

Your right. The Q6600 is still kickin butt. The only cpu that has become the mainstay for so many people. Sometimes good hard ware will become a "Classic" which I think Intel's Q6600 has become.

Sure you've got heaps of faster and much more powerful cpu's/motherboards, but wait in a few years if they will indeed still be in circulation. The Q6600 was the first Quad by Intel and will always be the most 'loved'.

Sorta like the ABIT BP6 back in the day... Mine lasted 3 years before the caps started popping around the CPU's. =(

Feel like I should chime in here with Core2 loving!
Not a quad, but I have finally -as in yesterday- upgraded from my trusty E8400 / Asus P5E / 8gb DDR2 rig.

Longest lasting system EVER.
