Huh? ProTools anf FLStudio uses fuck all CPU.

how does this compare vs my i5 2500k @ 5.0ghz?

side grade?

Seems like a downgrade for performance with your 5GHz instance, but upgrade in power savings.

Maybe I'm missing something but Ivy Bridge seems kinda "meh" for sandy bridge owners.

I wouldn't bother. I only got the ivy because I was building a brand new rig from scratch.

50+ tracks with effects on each tends to use a fair bit of CPU. I use Sonar with a shitty E5200 and its a lot of effort to get it under 100% usage...though a low end quad core would do fine haha.

Under normal use it doesn't use much but I've seen both max out an i5@4.5ghz

when you get into the 75-100 track region you really feel it struggle.

Depending on how big your projects are/get I could quite easily see the need for a 4.5ghz+ quad

..assuming batches mean something this time around..
3770k batch L214C040, results to come. sofar impressions are the IMC on this one might not be that great, though only had a few hours with it.

can only find one other owner with this batch, avulgarpicture on XS. not sure of his results.
also had some trident X 2400 memory arrive today, so have some testing ahead of me
only on water at this stage, going away over the weekend so not worth securing some dice/ln2 for proper testing (just yet, i mean)

edit:
shot for 5ghz, sofar its crashing under wprime load at just under 1.39v with LLC on "low", 4c/8t.
i see no option for a pll override equivilent. assume not required? running a g1 sniper M3 board.
given i have a 2600k that does 5ghz 4c/8t stable at 1.42v, this isnt looking good - for air/water, i mean.. leaky/high voltage CPUs supposed to be better for ln2, amiright?
thats where this one destined to go anyway.

guessing the dualbios isnt kicking in... have had that happen before on a p67-ud7.
had to short a couple pins on the main bios chip, to force it to the 2nd bios.
cannot for the life of me remember where i found out how to do that, or which pins.
perhaps hit up dino?

really does suck GB dont just have a bios switch like Assus..

also update my last post somewhat. might save any more results for when they are definitive.. have only had the CPU for a few hours lol

that is odd.. id almost reflash that again (to a different version, or at least a newly downloaded copy, possibly from a different server/location, loaded on a different USB drive/disc - had to do this today to get an updated bios flash to accept on a GB board, kept saying mismatched bios or something) just to be sure.
weird, wonder what would cause that. massive bclk spike or just complete failure to init the IGP. who knows.
dunno about that version board i've only used their ROG boards lately (outside of customer computers which, while im tempted, dont play around with enough to ever need that sort of bios recovery option lol)

3570k all setup now, all stock under an NH-D14. Installing and a little BF3/Crysis2, haven't seen a temp over 50degrees yet.

If I get the chance over the weekend might try OC a bit, open to any ASRockZ77 guides :P.

After a quick search I'll be setting the Vcore to 1.3, setting CPU LLC to Level 1.

The 2133MHz Ripjaws have 1.65v on the side of them, stick it at that and set command rate to 1t?

Cheers . I'll be happy with 4-4.2 by the sounds of things.

hey guys i got my 3770 mATX encoding system built today, and although most of you may not be interested in encoding, i thought i would post up some quick Encoding test results for those who might be interested, because these 3770 chips are quite simply freakingly awesome for encoding work, especially when using intel quick sync hardware acceleration encoding from the HD4000 graphics.

- using ArcSoft MediaConverter 7.0
- source file was an 85min ZZ-Top concert (16gb .m2ts)
- output to 1920x1080 h264 (MP4)
- constant quality @ RF:23 (7000 to 8000 bitrate)
- resulting file size was 7.5gb

using intel Quick Sync encoding on the HD4000 graphics, it took a blistering 14 minutes @ 11% to 15% of cpu, and average cpu temp between 48 and 55 degrees

using CPU only encoding, it took 27 minutes @ 100% cpu usage, with cpu running between 65 and 70 degrees.

my next test is the same file output using Handbrake with the same settings, only handbrake only does cpu based encoding, so i will do a normal profile output, then a high profile output using 2 passes.
