Funnily enough, ISO is not just three letters randomly chosen. It is actually reference to an International Standard published by the International Organisation for Standardisation.

Film speed is specified in ISO 5800:2001
Digital Camera sensor sensitivity is specified in ISO 12232:2006

Yes, there are allowances in these standards for small variations but by and large, different sensors will capture the same amount of light when using the same ISO (all other things being equal). If there was more than 1/3 of a stop difference between two cameras then something in the chain is not right (camera, lens, filter, user).

sure does, canon tends to be a little hot, their 100 is more like 125 for example.

Why hello there!

http://nikonrumors.com/2012/06/14/fi...px/#more-40710

Look like D7000 style controls. ie mode dial on the left shoulder rather than a button next to the shutter finger.

I can see a U1/U2 setting there so thats nice.

The affordable FX walkabout to accompany this was officially announced today as well: AF-S 24-85 3.5-4.5 VR

OMG

It looks quite small, but pity that it's so heavy. I wonder what size it is relative to the D3200?

I'm glad they brought back that 24-85, it's meant to be better than the existing f/2.8-f/4 version.
That is if it's anything like the one that got discontinued.

Good kit lens for the D600 too.

100% viewfinder coverage for Fx, and 97% for Dx... wtf? How does that work?

From here...

This is making it hard to stick with Canon...

I guess you could shoot FX and then crop in post - then it'd be 100% for DX lol

I have a feeling the D600 is going to push the value of my 5D2 down even further...

Doesn't that really depend on what glass you have? I was envious of the 5DMk2 for a long time because I shoot landscape and really wanted more pixels than my D700 had but with the investment in lenses I had it just didn't make sense. Lenses really are the most important part of the equipment part of the equation.

I do still hope that Nikon will release a 17mm TS such as Canons.

I think the D600 will be the answer to the prayer of many people that shoot landscape (wide angle) and cant afford a D700 or D800. By the looks of it, it will be the equivalent of the D5100 in FF. I think it will come in somewhere between $1500 and $2000.

It tends to run hot for the lower ISOs, and cold for the higher ones. I remember reading that some cameras ISO "800" was closer to 640, 1600 was closer to 1200, etc.

Well comparing the size difference, comparing the size of the body to the lens flange it actually seems just a fraction larger than the d40/d60/d3100 series...

If this is a real leak, then my prayers have been answered. I have been hoping for a FX sensor in a small body.

DxO measure the true ISO at all ISO levels.

Canon, on average, are furthest away from performing at the listed ISO's. Helps to make the images look cleaner at a specific ISO I guess.

I've put my D700 up for sale so I can get ths new body, looks like a great camera for amateurs prepared to pay for FX.

I've not used a body with a mode dial like this before, I can't imagine it's any worse than the D700 mode changing function.

Mostly looking forward to the %100 viewfinder and extra res.
