Default SuperMicro AOC-SASLP-MV8 Ubuntu Issues

Hi all,

Hoping someone can offer some advice with this card under Linux.

Issue:
The drives were listed in /dev/ but i could not access the drives at all - It would say the FS was bad. This only occurs when connecting my previous mdadm array drives. Connecting new unformatted drives, i am able to format them and add them to the array ok.

dmesg was full of the following (for all connected drives):
30.944490] sd 5:0:2:0: [sdd] Unhandled error code
[ 30.944500] end_request: I/O error, dev sdd, sector 0
[ 30.944527] sd 5:0:2:0: [sdd] Unhandled error code
[ 30.944536] end_request: I/O error, dev sdd, sector 0
[ 310.049446] ata12: sas eh calling libata cmd error handler
[ 310.049449] ata7: sas eh calling libata port error handler
[ 310.049460] ata8: sas eh calling libata port error handler
[ 310.049465] ata9: sas eh calling libata port error handler

[ 1300.469247] /build/buildd/linux-3.0.0/drivers/scsi/mvsas/mv_sas.c 2198ort 6 ctrl sts=0x199800.
[ 1300.469250] /build/buildd/linux-3.0.0/drivers/scsi/mvsas/mv_sas.c 2200:Port 6 irq sts = 0x1000000

Running version 3.04.19 of mtpsas.

Have confirmed this card is working under Windows.

Thoughts or suggestions anyone?

Thanks,
Nash

Hi Nasha...you seem to have two threads on the same topic?

"Hi All,

Recently brought a SuperMicro 8pt HBA card (cant remember exact model off the top of my head), off eBay, and i suspect it is faulty - I/O errors under Ubuntu Linux.

There is quite a few instances of this issue under Linux, but i can't substantiate whether it's a fault or not as of yet. The seller is being a bit funny about replacing as Ubuntu isnt a supported OS....
"

People have already offered assistance to you re. these issues in that thread.

Perhaps you should keep it to one thread?

Thanks Stanza,

I did only scan that thread, so forgive me for jumping the gun, but i don't think the issue is the same, nor did it have a resolution other than replacing backplanes?

This does appear to be a driver issue from everything i've seen thus far. There is a thread almost exactly like mine on the gossamer threads list, and the fix was apparently introduced in 2.6.37 kernel. I'm running 3.0.0.16

ahh yeah whoops,

I sent Andrew a BR10i to debug his system, which worked fine.

In the end he ended up using 1 x BR10i (one I sent) + one of his Supermicro

As...

His comment thru PM

"Just wanted to let you know mate that I have got my nas up and running. For some reason with the supermicro SAS card it drops one drive off when plugged into my second pcie slot.

So now I'm running one supermicro and one IBM card and it all works sweet!"

Maybe ask in his thread for more info.

Hope it helps

Interesting.... My card is plugged into a 2nd PCIe slot... I have a DVB-T tuner in my x1 slot, and the Supermicro in the x16 slot.

So basically what your saying in his case, i might be able to fiddle with the slots and sort it?
