I forgot about this terrible thread.
Does a camera make you happy? Do you enjoy using it? Great. Buy it. Live life.

However this camera has made me realise that a camera with a monochrome sensor isn't the amazing breakthrough I thought it would be, but i wish john voight would get off his ass and make a digital M camera. i skipped through most of that video, was it interesting?

Pretty obvious. Chain. What else is there?

shaft drive, and friction drive but not very many motorbikes have that. oh and electric drive.
so belt drive is "old tech" compared to chain drive? you do realise harleys were chain drive for decades before they were belt drive, and that they were still chain drive before modern sports bikes were even though of?let me ask you the ultimate question, if you had the disposable income to buy one, would you buy one? (a leica, not a harley)

I would pick a bike over a Leica, that's for sure.

![]() Seriously tho this thread was a great read. I can't believe how many people start to wuhuhuhu as soon as other people spend their money 'frivolously'. |

my canonet QL-17 does what i want out of a rangefinder and it cost 25 bucks. i'm referring to digital rangefinders, if i wanted another film RF i'd buy a bessa.
only thing that qualifies to compete with the M9 (ie large sensor rangefinder) is the X pro-1, and i can;t justify the price of that either.

Kinda disagree with the X pro or x100 though. They're completely different in actual usage, if they were even remotely similar in shooting style I'd have bought it ages ago. You can get a M8 for approx $2k, quite an old camera but it's the closest resemblance I've found to a film RF after going through all the alternatives. I'd have bought the RD1 if repair services were more readily available, I think obscuredid was selling one for $900. Last edited by crispy12; 19th August 2012 at 1:28 PM. |

Oh and the range finder portion of it has died. Its now just a manual camera.

so if you want a (new) digital rangefinder your choice is an M9 or an Xpro1. the light meter on mine is dead but the focus is still great, i'd shoot film more but i know i hardly ever get around to developing it, so i really want a digi RF. i was thinking about getting a sigma DP2 again but i'm not going to spend 700 bucks on something that is so hard to use based on my experience from my DP1.

The Xpro1/X100 may look Leica-ish but the experience couldn't be more different. Have used both.
