Trying to get back into this after a hiatus. Had a weird night tonight... after sneaking into Cherno and looting a few bits and pieces, some random drove straight up to where I was and emptied a magazine into me from a M4SD.
After that, I respawned... right back in the same place, oddly enough, though with newbie gear. Ran through Cherno eating about fifty cans of beans and eventually finding a Winchester with all the trappings. Then got run out of town and lost the session with a dozen zeds on my tail. All par for the course, really.

I played this a while back and got frustrated trying to join servers and it not working. I thought I'd give it another shot.
I've downloaded the latest ARMA 2 beta, and am running it from the .cmd file as per the wiki. I've used the Dayzupdater to patch to the latest version. When I'm in the server browser, my version comes up as 1.61 for some reason. I try to join any server and get 'waiting for host'. Any tips on how to play the game? EDIT: I've followed the Steam bit here, but it still shows up as 1.6.x http://dayzwiki.com/wiki/index.php?t...MA2_Beta_patch Last edited by DaLeroy; 16th July 2012 at 10:37 PM. |

Try US servers they seem to work better than Aussie ones for me at least.... I get stuck on Waiting for Host on every Aussie server I try. US ones work straight up. |

Gave this a go tonight...
Spawn, sneak forward a little and 3 guys run past me with 20+ Zed's chasing them... Needless to say they then chase me. First life lasted no more than 2 mins.. Second life lasted about 5 mins... Third life lasted 10 mins... This is stupid.. This is going to be a very SLOW game!!

If you're doing PVP, the best tip I can give for you is this:
Make your first shot count. Seriously, not even kidding with this: if you have someone in your sights, but aren't at least 99% sure you'll hit them the first time, don't click that mouse. If you're not sure how far away they are, don't click that mouse. If you've just spotted them and aren't sure what they're doing running around with 600 zombies following them, don't click that mouse. Why? Because in PVP, only the first shot matters. Easy to say when you have an AS50 or other one-hit-kill weapon, but if you miss the first time, four things can happen, perhaps all at once: a) they know you're shooting at them, and b) all the rest of your shots have equally as bad a chance to miss, and c) if they're good, they'll start shooting back, and perhaps the worst of all, d) you've just given away your position to however many of his buddies might be around. Make the first shot count. Unless you're the coolest cat in the world, there's easily a good chance that if the first shot doesn't hit, then none of your subsequent shots will, either —*not to mention, you'll be giving away your position to anyone else in the area. Plus, there's nothing more satisfying than scoring a direct hit and kill after scoping out a target for the past few minutes. |

BAH. He didn't see us, he actually only hid after you shot at him with that cannon of yours. The others were already shooting/flanking us so missing then was not end of the world stuff.
But otherwise I agree, first shot means a lot especially with discos.

Seconded
<story> Tonight a friend and I were in the fire station on the NW airfield. I heard half a second of mic chat, like someone tapped caps accidentally but didn't say anything meaningful. 30s later a few rounds wiz past through the front doors. We close the doors and run out the back, watching a chemlight fall as we go. Hitting the deck in the bushes behind the fire station my mate spots the shooter prone on the roof of the control tower. I just had an AKS so bullet drop was accomplished by him spotting with binoculars, 2-3 shots later he was bleeding, but didn't go far. So, whoever that was, thanks for the ammo and blood bags </story> It was on an ANZ server, 1 or 2. Earlier on another ANZ server we hear a car coming down the road South of Pustoshka. My mate shoots out a tyre and the car stops right where I could shoot through the front windows. It was dark so I just sprayed full auto from an AKS and ended up blowing the car up. The explosion hurt my mate pretty bad, he shot the driver. Good times!

So, my life is ended on day 12. May my murders enjoy my Night Vision, Silenced M4, Silenced M9, Rangefinder, coyote, etc.
We had an ATV randomly flip over and light on fire, my friend was knocked out and I dragged him away before it exploded. As we were running away we ran through a field and ran past 2 proned men without noticing, I believe both had DMRs, they took a bunch of shots at my friend but missed everything, he managed to get away, but I was killed. Sadly he wasn't in a state to fight back and rescue my gear, but I have much more stashed, just no more silenced M4 On spawn I was murdered in a starting town by a well geared man. I have suspicion that his camp is not far from that town, I'm going to go find it. Last edited by gregpolk; 17th July 2012 at 2:14 AM. |

It appears different zombies have different range of vision and hearing.. Is this right ? And if so, is there anyway that you can tell them apart ?
Some guys see me from 30m away, some I can crouch/walk past...

Day 22,
Start out near NW Airfield and arranged to meet up with a Klown, he had been suffering from some broken internetitis over the last few days and had only just got back in to the swing the of things, so while waiting for him to get to our meet place i hear our mates over comms who are looting devils castle that they have eyes on a pickup truck. After sneaking around and scouting the place they see the coast is clear and go in take the pickup, 2/3 fuel in the tank and all green! While this was happening klown finally learned who to use a compass and meet up with me, since the other guys had a pickup(2 seater) we decided to starting walking to the place we agreed to meet them. We had only walked maybe 500m before we noticed something a couple of 100m away in the bushes... it was another pickup truck, so we went over a nicked it. This one had half a tank of fuel and was also all green. By this stage we where feeling pretty good, in less then 20 minutes of being online we had located two sets of wheels and deiced to drive to a clearing to meet up. After meeting up we checked the gear in the pick up and found the 2nd truck to empty, but the first truck had a as50! and a ton of blood and morphine. (After last nights sillyness we saved both cars.) After some quick fueling using the jerry cans found on the pickup we decided head out to our camp and since i am the only one with a gps i drove the lead the car. After 5 minutes and 20 gay jokes we are driving past Kabanino and Klown yells out "STOP"...... he has spotted a big blue thing in the bushes ahead.. URAL MOTHER FUCKERS. So now we have 2x pickups and ural, thinking we are top shit we drive to our campsite to cheak out the ural. Ural loot 3x as50 (that makes it 4 for the night) 1x m107 20 blood bags 20 morphine shit tons of other guns and loot. -the end |

Well i just died on day 17, lost my DMR and glock and some other goodies, not a big deal but i miss the DMR already... some f*ker spawned in behind me in the barracks while i was looting it, had no time to react... utter shit that you can exit the game inside such a high loot spot.
