Malaysia was a kinda a life changing experience for me, I am malay but migrated to Australia when i was three years old, my old man was finishing off his economics degree at a university in newcastle so the whole family came with him (this is in 1986), Mum and dad loved Australia so much that they decided to stay here instead.

I've never been back to my motherland since untill last week, so its been 25 years since ive seen my homeland, its nice to see my heritage and where I m from.

I am malay so i fit in well, however i do get funny stares when i talk to Malay people and they hear me speak Australian-english (I can't speak malay very well at all)

Heh, recognise some of those places.

Just spent 3 months in Malaysia, although, mainly in the Penang area.

OP do you mind if this thread is moved to the Holiday & Travel forum? It is a publically viewable forum.

KL was extremly fun, definately a city worth going to.. Hopefully the aussie dollar is still high when you go, its ridiculous, you seriously could live pretty well with the exchange rate $1 AUD is approx RM3, and thing is, food, drink, accommodation is relatively cheap.

for example, I shouted 3 peeps for dinner and a few drinks and it cost me RM100 which is approx $30 AUD TOTAL.

Good thing about KL is it never sleeps, you can go hang out at make-shift eateries (these are just peoples houses with little resturants etc setup infront), bars, ect anytime of the night, any day and it will be pretty lively.

Word of advice, the humidity is crazy, its low to mid 30 *C most days but humidity is all up in the 80% so you do get sticky and sweaty, plus walking around from Heat to Aircon rooms really took a toll on my body and i got pretty sick at one stage. Also, if you LOVE FOOD, expect to be fed really well and do plan to go to the gym when you come back home, cause you will put on weight LOL.

I just got back from a South East asia trip last week, Vietnam/Laos/Cambodia/Thailand. So i have a fair idea what youre talking about. We were sweating like crazy the whole time but none of us got sick at all, we partied like madmen too, the prices in Vietnam are ridiculous. Drinking beers in Hoi An for 3000 Dong - ie. 15 cents AUS

Being shotgun in the passenger seat around KL was scary enough, they have a very forceful sorta style of driving, the way they change lanes, the way they give way to other motorist. You really do gotta get use to the style before you can drive around.. My old man was driving and he is used to it..

Then there is the scooters and motorbikes, my god, these guys are on a death wish, lane splitting, cutting of trucks and busses.. Its normal for them.

But then again, traffic seemed to flow ok, not many accidents to be seen.
