Default X4 955BE stock voltage?

Hey guys, I've had my x4 for probably around 7 months now and its always seemed cool and happy

But I just saw on some overclocking guides for them that 1.35v or something like that is the stock. Mine is at 1.47v, is this normal for a stock voltage?

Ive got cool and quiet on so its not always that high, but thats what it hits under load. What could have made it go to this voltage and how would I get it back to actual stock without losing any performance?

I would never have thought something was wrong otherwise, it idles nice and low, and rarely breaks probably 55 degrees under load.

Thanks in advance for the help

Yeah, most likely 1.3-1.35v. That's what mine runs at (when it's at stock)

Thats a pretty high temp, and your volts are probably on Auto. Manually set it to 1.35

Awesome, thanks for the help. Dropping it down to 1.35 wont lower the frequency will it?

No. It wont But it might be an idea to double check that its still on stock aswell (3200mhz)

It won't, but if you're up to it, you can find the lowest voltage that it will run at. This will drop temps and power usage dramatically. Eg. My 965 has a default voltage of 1.4V, which is high, but it runs happily at 1.25V - much cooler, too.

Ok, thanks for the help, Ill do it tomorrow when I boot it up. Might just set it to 1.35v for the time being and then tweak it a bit more this weekend.

Also had another thought, would the bios have changed after I replaced the cpu? I had a x2 6000+ in it before, that may have needed the current voltage which is why its still like that....Probably not though haha, just a thought which makes no difference to the outcome lol

If you did not update your BIOS before the CPU swap then you will likely see some weird shit.

If you did not reset the BIOS after the BIOS upgrade then you will likely see some weird shit.

If you did not do another BIOS reset after the CPU swap then you will likely see some weird shit.

After reading some of your posts, my main thought is to say, "Back under your bridge..." to you .

Hahahaha. I did a bios flash before I updated the chip, to give my motherboard AM3 support. I never even realised I should reset the bios after a chip change tbh. I just flashed it, put the new chip in, let it update the dual bios and away I went. Its worked perfectly with no glitches ever since apart from the voltage. Thankfully PII's are hardy it seems lol

They'll take up to around 1.5V without much trouble, but they get very hot at higher voltages. Not recommended.

Out of interest, reset the BIOS and see what the VCore defaults to.

I never thought it was running hot cause it runs around the same temps as my old x2, and I figured with 2 extra cores in there thats pretty good haha. Dodgy logic.

I'll reset it tomorrow when I get a chance and get back to you.

I couldn't be stuffed properly clearing the cmos, but I went and tried loading all the fail safe's and optimized settings anyway. Did nothing for it at all. So I dropped it down to 1.35v manually.

Its working like a charm, its been on for about an hour and hasn't breached 40 degrees, although I'm not doing anything too heavy on it atm. The heat sink is a bit dusty too so I should drop a few degrees when I clean that out.

Thanks for the help guys

Definitely clean out the HAD, Phenom II's hit a thermal wall at 55-60c where they could potentially shut down as a fail safe.

I had mine do this when overclocking at 4ghz at 1.5v, so if my temps are getting that high at those speeds/voltage you should definitely make sure its running cooler if you're only running at stock.

And that is a great example of a bad chip

4ghz at 1.5 volts is extremely high

And yes OP, blow out the dust. Its just that simple

You'd be surprised at how many you could find that would do over 3.8Ghz comfortably, mine did 3.8ghz at 1.4v but an extra 0.1v get to 200Mhz wasn't really worth it.
