For example he is playing Tribes: Ascend right now and if you enable 5040x1050 you get a cropped zoomed view that is just crap, game text is out of screen and the top and bottom of the screen are chopped off, so how do you fix this? Or are there some games you just have to play in single screen mode?

That said, most games these days are much more aware of surround gaming but you do get an odd title or two which just doesn't work. Ultimately tho, surround gaming only really works for 3D games, ie, FPS, simulators, where the extra width is useful (more importantly peripheral vision helps dramatically, as you don't need to see all 3 screens at any one time, but screens to the left and right help fill in the blanks for situational awareness), as opposed to strategy games that make the extra width painful to use as they transform the game into 3 screens wide so you have to do a lot more 'scanning'..

Pretty much exactly what he said.

Depending on the engine of the game, some games work really well across multiple monitors (Trackmania is fantastic. I really recommend you/your sun check it out - works flawlessly across 3), others are a little bit iffy and you have to do FoV mods in .ini files, others are just a no go.

For instance, Fallout3/NV/other Bethesda games work well, but often the menu text comes up unreadbly huge.

I haven't tried Tribes so I can't help you with that particular issue - I'm assuming you've had a google for "tribes ascend 5040x1050 fix"?

Here's a few photo's of my 3x Dell U2711 7680 x 1440 setup;

I'll take a few screenies of Battlefield 3 but my GTX590 can only play 7680 x 1440 on LOW settings so it's not as pretty as it should be. I love eye candy.

I'm still in the research phase and don't know what GPU setup I will buy to play on ULTRA settings @ 7680 x1440.

Nothing's going to allow you to play on ultra with AA/AF/HBAO, 4 x 4GB 680's should get you ultra with possibly SSAO and moderate AF.

Jumping on the bandwagon, here's my 3 x 27" Dell U2711 setup, had to get the desk custom made after getting them so I had more depth and could spread them out properly:

Couple of shots of 7680x1440 WoW from when I used to play:

Only running dual gtx460s at the moment, but new build (link in sig) is coming along well :) As someone mentioned, Ultramon is win if you're using multiple monitors.

how have most of you set up the monitors: 3-way extended display or nv surround/eyefinity?

also looking for a proper 3 monitor stand so i can have that desk space underneath the side monitors.

I use extended for everyday use and Eyefinity occasionally for gaming

The advantage of extended with Ultramon is you can maximize a window to just one monitor rather than maximizing across all 3. Amongst other things.

Also, I've got a semi-proper 3 monitor stand I'm looking to get rid of, it needs to clamp on to the back of a desk (i.e. can't just sit on a desk like a Proluma) but it's not perfect, needs some tightening up to prevent sag. PM me if you're in Melb and you want it for cheap

You can maximize a monitor to a single display running NV surround with the 3xx series drivers.

for some reason it won't let me do nv surround.

also, for some reason my 3rd monitor is always going blank but this is mainly in screensaver mode, when i boot up too. not a big deal but i would like to figure out how to stop it. NOTE: this happened on both AMD and NVIDIA cards so i don't think it's card specific.

Are all of your monitors the same make/model?

I ask because they all have to be of the same sync polarity.

2 are LG + 1 acer.

both LGs are connected via DVI the acer is hdmi.

EDIT: I think this is also causing my nv surround issue....if i can get the same LG model then hopefully it will kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

You cannot connect the Acer via HDMI, it has to be connected via DP if you are running one card.

Honestly, I've been looking on the NV site and I'm just plain confused, not too sure....
