Default Holiday to HK

I'm heading to HK later on in June and am looking for some advice on places to stay, places to visit and things to do.

The holiday is going to be a mix of sightseeing, shopping and partying.

From a quick Google search, wan chai seems to be where the night-life (clubs/bars/etc) is. I am unsure whether is should stay here or whether i should stay a little out and just travel to wan chai at night.

For accommodation, i would like a hotel and am happy to spend up to around AU$100pn.

I here the tailors are quite good in HK (supposedly better than Thailand, where i have purchased multiple suits in the past). Does anyone have any recommendations? I hear that there is a place called 'Sams?' that has had a lot of famous people through its doors in the past.

Also i have heard there is a quite famous pub crawl on Thursday nights. Anyone been on this?

Any general recommendations appreciated.

Thanks.

for places to go. visit ocean park. forget hongkong disney land. its so small.
take a tram to the The Peak. thats great to do late in the afternoon for the views. then stay till it goes dark. you will see the buildings put on a light show.

as for suits made in hongkong. ask sanjay. last i checked he is still there.

some more places to visit.

Thanks HUMMER.

From some googling, it seems that Sam's tailors are low end. Chan's seems to be the one to go to. Bit more expensive, but worth the money.

If you want to bargain and go to the markets at night, you can stay somewhere walking distance around the Mongkok area. There is the ladies market there which is not too bad.

Alot of people/tourists go to Lan Kwai Fong as well for bars/clubs. I haven't gone myself so can't comment.

I checked out LKF on my last trip to HK in February and i thought it was ok, while clubbing/drinking/dancing isn't my thing. it's full of small bars and in the evenings they're usually packed and full of expats/tourists.

Ocean Park is also good too though a few of the rides were down and most of them are shorter than i remember. the only decent ride is the cable car that connects the lower part of the park to the rest of the park and it has a decent view of the ocean.

there's a show called "The Layover" and they did an episode on HK. see if you can grab it and give it a viewing and take some notes.

Thanks for suggesting 'The Layover'. Not a bad show.

Defiantly will be trying out the Michelin star rated dumplings.
