It's my first anniversary with my partner at the end of next month, I'm trying to do do something nice. I'm surprising her with a weekend in ACT, just to relax and go somewhere new. Is it worthwhile to try and get a better price on a hotel and if so, is it better to do it a month in advance or a couple of days earlier. I want to spend about $400 for 2 nights and would prefer somewhere with a kitchen, so any ideas on a hotel would also be good.
Apart from that, what are some good things to do in or around the capital? It's going to be hard to keep it a secret for another month and a half but i have the help of her best friend and boss. Also, if it makes any difference we would be getting there on friday and leaving sunday.

I'd probably try to book something sooner rather than later - if there's some parliamentary thing on it might be hard to get rooms.
I like the national gallery. There are vineyards near by, wine, cheese cuddled up near a fireplace sounds alright. It's also not too far from the snow, if you wanted to head down that way for the day. You can go ice skating in the city: http://www.inthecitycanberra.com.au/skate-2/ Too bad you won't be there for floriade though - it's a flower festival they have in spring. |
