Default Good brand for cutters etc for electronics?

So my current cheap cutters etc are blunt and I need new ones.
I am looking to buy a set of small side cutters, flush cutters, pointy pliers, etc.
I'm prepared to buy good stuff as it gets used a lot.

I'm looking for recommendations on good brands to buy. I know who makes good full size electrical gear, but I'm not sure what's good for the small electronics tools.

What recommendations and experiences do you guys have?

I had a pair of these that I loved until my lovely mother in law used them to pull giant staples out of wood. I don't think Jaycar sell them anymore.

http://gsmserver.com/items/item_details.php?id=817154

served me well as a PS2 repairman.

If this is way below the quality you are after (they are pretty cheap) then i'm interested in what you end up with, the pair i got to replace them aren;t fantastic.

Knipex, I was trying to remember their name. I'll check them out.

I've also found Erem, but they seem to be a premium brand with a very premium price....

oculi, those are about the level that I already have, I'm looking to step up to something a bit higher quality.

no worries, very interested in what you end up buying and where you get them.

I have a set of knipex pliers for work, they get abused a bit, cutting everything from electrical wiring to thin steel sheeting, best pliers I've owned. They will go blunt after a while depending on what you use them for, I've had mine for 2~ years now, still cuts fine.

These are great, used them for quite a long time. Bit on the expensive side though.

These are looking good so far:

Flush cut:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Knipex-ES...-/170819499637

Bevelled cut with lead catcher:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Knipex-ES...-/170819499083

Anywhere cheaper than ebay to get these things from?

Also what's the functional difference between a box joint like these:
http://www.knipex.com/index.php?id=1...7&groupID=1482

and a bolted joint like these?

they look very similar to my old pair. $30 bucks is nothing if you need good side cutters, you will cost much more than that by damaging the equipment you hit when throwing your shitty wire strippers when they don't do what you want them to.

Lindstrom have been my prefered cutters for many decades but they are expensive, I think over $100 today.

OK, going by that price in the UK, well over $100 down here if you can find them.

no one uses facom cutters?

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/FACOM-sk-...item231b09bc67

for a palm sized cutter they can cut coax and 2 x 4 core cables in 1 go

such a shame... in 2007 the seller sold them for $15 each.

If i had known the price advertised was at bargin levels i would have purchased alot more.

You are man that knows what he is talking about. I was issued with a pair of these when I was in telstra 30 years ago. They are very tired, the hinge is sloppy from wear, but you can still cut the hairs on your arm with them. I should add that that was with 20 years of proffessional use.
If you want the best, this is them.
They are expensive though.
Two things to remember.
1. Never loan your cutters to anyone.
2. Only ever use them to cut what they were designed for.
3. Never loan your cutters to anyone.

Got a pair of these when I used to work installing fibre. The only cutters we could find that would last a decent about of time cutting glass fibre and the kevlar stringers in the cable and stay sharp. also good for small cables etc which normal pliers/side cutters mangle

So true! You have no idea what monkeys will get up to with your cutters.
