Hi. I have two dogs, one is a pure bred bordie collie (bandito) and the other a golden retreiver x border collie x kelpie (bella). I was hoping someone here could help with bandito. She is extremely possessive of anything she can be, it started with a frisbee when she was young but since that got lost she has found anything and everything. Currently it is a pellet she likes to chew on. She is never agressive towards people because she knows well that we are in control but if possible she will run away with the object. If bella goes near whatever the object is at the moment bandito will growl and sometimes bite her (not actually hurting bella though). Bandito will also try to stop bella from eating food and I have to stand there supervising them to make sure bella gets fed. Bella is very submisive as well which i dont think helps and will pretty much let bandito do what she pleases.
Both dogs are well trained with basic commands and discipline and neither would hurt a person or another dog. So far I have tried taking anything she protects away from her but she just kept finding more things and its a bit hard to remove the pellet. I have tried ignoring her which works a little bit and she ventures closer but as soon as i give her any attention she runs off. I have tried telling her off for bullying bella and being protective and she knows she knows what she has done wrong but will just do it again and again. So would anyone here be able to help me? I'm a bit stuck for ideas. Thanks.

I would suggest getting a behaviourist to see what they are doing first hand and to advise you accordingly
Not sure where you are in order to recommend someone so unless you are in WA I prob can't recommend anyone, hopefully you will get some recommendations here |

It's cause you named him Bandito
![]() We have the same problem with our dog Maximum Buff. Thinks he's bigger than he is and everything he does is to the MAX |

Yes, I'd definitely call in a professional. This could end up very badly, so I wouldn't just try things, I'd want to get the right advice and know that I was approaching the problem in a way that was going to work.

What happens if you take something away from her and give it to Bella, out of interest?Fixed

Yes its a girl, we did not name her. She is named bandito because she is white with black and the black on her face looks like a mask. If I take something off her and give it to bella she follows bella around trying to take it out of her mouth until bella gets distracted and drops it then bandito grabs it and runs off.
