Microsoft Is Expected to Introduce a Tablet

Quote:
For decades, Microsoft has made the software that runs a majority of the world’s personal computers, leaving a gang of outside hardware companies to design the machines. Apple, its rival, makes it all.
ng.

On Monday, Microsoft is expected to introduce a tablet computer of its own design that runs a new version of its Windows operating system, according to people with knowledge of Microsoft’s plans who declined to be identified discussing confidential matters. It is the first time in the company’s 37-year history that it will offer a computer of its own creation. The device is aimed squarely at Apple’s blockbuster iPad, which has begun to threaten Microsoft’s hegemony in the computer business.

Makes sense.... seeing as they are trying to penetrate and gain a foothold in the phone/tablet scene by bringing windows 8 into the ARM architectures etc..

oh ok i came into this thread to find out when the event is. So it is on the west coast, meaning tuesday morning we will find out what they have to say?

I'm also excited to see what M$ can do. I really like the metro UI (haven't used it however) and think it will be really interesting to see how it works on a tablet.

Apparently The Verge will be live blogging the event from 8:30AM Sydney time.

But will MS release it @ a reasonable price/config seeing as most previous HW from them has been overpriced rubbish, apart from a few gaming products

This might be a Nokia announcement, for a Nokia Tablet, not a MS Tablet...

I would jump on a MS tablet running W8! As long as the price is competitive it suits my needs for a travel/wife-friendly tablet perfectly.
