Default Power Supply/Motherboard Question

Hi All,

So the PSU in my machine blew a few weeks ago and i have picked up a newer, more powerful revision of the same PSU off the forums. The existing PSU is a Corsair HX620 and the new is a HX850, Motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3, so quite old.

The issue i have found is that my old PSU had a 4pin ATX Connector where as the new one does not. Have I bought an incompatible PSU?

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Am I correct in my Googling that the 8 pin connector on the PSU is to be plugged into the 4 pin on the Motherboard?

There should be a 4+4pin connector that is used for your CPU
