And having the USB connected to the USB port of the PC for power is ok. You just need to ensure that the output is via the Optical cable. This works fine, easy way to test its working like this is just to listen to something and yank the optical cable out

If you can hear the difference then you have absolutely golden ears. Lossless or not...
glad to see when you troll that you read the information properly as i stated on a notebook plugging in the usb may have issues due to different spec power from diff manufacturers.

Also the way you can tell if its running off optical is that it will make a clicking sound when receiving the digital signal, I use the proper method not your trailer part antics.

The following link will prove just how low grade your audio understanding is
http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1687255

Just in case you missed it:
Input data rate : up to 192KS/s (optical), 96KS/s (USB)

you can also find it on the official manufactures website:

http://audioengineusa.com/Store/Audi...-D1#tech-stuff

Optical receiver:CS8416 http://www.cirrus.com/en/pubs/proDat.../CS8416_F3.pdf
USB controller:TI1020B

that is all

I know the difference. I'm saying you can't fuckin hear it. Especially on your headphones.

I'm also saying its a crock of shit using Lossless. Again, you can't tell the difference. Again, especially on your headphones.

And I used the proper way to connect my optical cable, I merely pointed out a very easy way to make sure its using the optical for the data. Y'all know what I'm sayin'.

Maybe try linking me to something on Head-Fi about sound absorbing rocks next time.

mate just because you can't hear it on your T70 which apart from being a closed headphone are basically identical to the PRO 900's doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

the can you hear it or not, not only comes down to the type of music but also the listeners ability to discern the subtle changes from using 24bit audio resolution 16,777,216 which in your case is lacking.

http://www.head-fi.org/t/584599/mini...yerdynamic-t70

whats your point?? looks like the T70 have more issues than the 900's mate.

that is all

Im not going to waste anymore time on this

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audio_system_measurements

we are both thread crapping on this guys thread.

The D1 is a good unit, on either USB or Optical, it is very robust and has a feature set which is lacking in a lot of other portable dac units. +1 to Audioengine for there fine work on this unit.

Well with about a week of use with HD555's I am blown away by how good it sounds.

Going to go deaf with the volume of crystal clear music I am listening to now. Dubstep sounds AWESOME.

Also tried them in Battlefield 3 with the "War Tapes" option on. It's a whole new experience. The Razer Chimaera 5.1's do not give that game justice to how good it sounds. Through the AudioEngine + HD555's it is AMAZING.

I use optical on a different DAC to electrically separate the PC from the DAC. Some USB DACs get some funky noises connected with HDD and video card activity.

Anyone using this on a Macbook Pro? If so, do you notice much improvement over the onboard sound?

I recommended it to a guy over at Headphonic using a Macbook. He said it was considerable and was extremely happy with it

If a DAC did that, wouldn't you return it?

cheers, is it worth getting a optical cable to use with it?

Starting off with a shitty G41 s775 elcheapo motherboard

then moving to a rampage IV extreme with their "soundblaster" chip

then eventually gonna stick an essence stx or a titanium hd (cant decide which, so much fanboy flaming on both sides) in there to drive either the 700s and/or something along the lines of A5+ or an equivalent
