Default Subwoofer Squareish Room - Placement

Hey Guys,

I have a Paradigm v3200 sub sounds amazing. Issue is where im living the loungeroom is pretty squareish and im having trouble getting good bass in my listening position for anything really above 50-60hz (as a guess)
Low end bass from movies etc vibrates the whole house and sounds good in my listenting position. But playing house / Trance / Electro music im really struggling to get a good sounds from the sub in my listening position. If i go and stand in my bedroom (few rooms away) the bass is extremely loud. Soo if its so loud there why isnt it loud when im sitting 3m away from the sub ? Ive tried moving it across the whole wall and sticking it in a corner but it doesnt seem to cure the bass issues over 50hz.

All the speaker crossovers are set at 80hz and ive run auddsey or whatever its called aswell.
Its on the 2nd story of the house (above the garage) and is on carpet.

Any ideas?

Best cheap way to find the ideal placement. Place the sub in your listening position then crawl around your lounge room until you find the position where it sounds best. Then move the sub to that position.

Place the subwoofer in the listening position.
Play music of choice.
Crawl around the walls of the room, listening for where is sounds good to you.
Place subwoofer in that spot.
Enjoy.

This is known as the subwoofer crawl.

Ninja beaten!

you could hang it from the garage ceiling and turn it up really loud, actually in this situation i'd use an infinite baffle subwoofer.

I find the best position is a corner, you'll get more gains on the subwoofer's output from the room loading.

In saying that, some people (my mates) believe the bass is a tad boomy.

yeah its stuck in a corner now, but it seems that above 50-60hz its just not anywhere near loud enough. Maybe ill just set the crossover point for my mains to 60hz, they will play down to 40 anyway. Damn rented house lol

Make sure your mains are set to 'small' on the receiver so that they don't output the same bass frequencies as the sub. If the sub & mains are trying to produce the same notes they can cancel each other out.

You might have some luck experimenting with crossover & placement. If you're after more output at 60hz+ perhaps try increasing crossover to 90hz on receiver & set crossover on sub to a high level (like 150hz) so that you're relying on the sub output of the receiver to determine the cutoff.

Might also be worth seeing how the Subwoofer performs with Audyssey EQ switched off.

Hey,

Yeah I have tried that, you can see the sub is working hard at the higher hz it just isnt delivering lol.
Ill try turning auddsey off and see if that makes a difference. I also bypass the crossover in the sub aswell. Maybe ill drop the crossover of my mains down to like 40hz they are dali concept 8s so they shouldnthave an issue with that anyway

I use measurements to help choose a location, but if you are flying blind, then at the centre of the front wall often works better than many other positions. You can see some examples here:
