Default my gfx card died, need a one new

I got a pretty old machine running a Gigabyte GA 965SP-S3 motherboard with a E6300 Core 2 Duo. The video card just died and I need a replacement for it.

I only use the PC for watching full HD movies so no gaming, however I hope it would atleast be better than the card it is replacing, a Nvidia 7600GS.

I would like for it to be passively cooled or atleast a very quiet fan.

Main requirements

1. must work with current motherboard so I think the first gen PC Express port
2. must be able to drive 2 monitors, one at 2560x1440 and 1920x1200
3. I assume I need either a display port or dual link DVI, with a second VGA/DVI/HDMI port

Your choices will be limited on how much you wish to spend.

I was hoping it was evident since I am happy for it to be on par with my previous 5 year old card 7600GS.

All I need is to watch 1080p movies and drive 2 monitors with one being 2560x1440. I am hoping I can find something around $50 if I am not dreaming

last check

my motherboard only states support for PCIE 1.0 so would a 2.1 video card work fine in it?

You can get 8800's, GTS250's and such around for for less than $20, which are significantly more beefy than the 7600GS that you had before. The only trouble is going to be finding a passively cooled one .

Take a look in the FS section

Looking at around the $60 mark and I like the ATI 6570/6670, however they are all PCIE 2.1 cards.

Can any one confirm it will work in my Gigabyte GA-965-S3 board that has the PCIE 1.0 slot?

Depends on card dude, if its a PCI-E 2.1 compliant card and gets all its power from PCI slot prob won't work as PCI-E 2.1 cards require slightly higher voltage which 1.0 can't provide so see if you can get one with connector, just make sure your PSU can handle it.

Just going on my experience with same board as you with Amd 5570 which wouldn't work.
