Default TL-WN951N only running at 150mbps

Hey all,

I have this wireless adaptor.

Up until a few days ago it ran at 300Mbps almost all the time, be it 4/5 bars or full bars of reception.

Now it doesn't matter what the reception is at, it sits at 150Mbps!

Another adaptor (TP-Link but USB model) in the next room (slightly further away from router; additional wall) gets worse reception but the full 300Mbps speeds.

Another Adaptor (Billion USB 3011N adaptor) which is 4-5m from the above PC gets full reception but only 58-72Mbps speed.

Router: Billion 7800N
Adaptor: TP-Link TL-WN951N / Billion 3011N
O/S: Windows 7 Ultimate x64

Thanks

I think it might be your actual router by the looks of you showing the other network dongle running slower.
Try seeing if you can test it on a different router that supports 300mbps

Unfortunately i don't have another N router, but there is a PC getting 300Mbps so surely it must be the adaptors themselves?

Just Tested the Billion 3011N USB adaptor that was in my HTPC that was only getting 72mbps...Still getting 72mbps from my home computer.

Getting the same download/upload speed (speedtest.net) from all the devices though.

Maybe a neighbour just got a new router and it's on the same channel as yours. Try a few different WiFi channels on the router and see if you can get it to improve.

Thanks for the input guys, i found out the problem.

On my 7800N, there is an setting, Channel width that can be 20MHz or 20/40MHz.

It was set to 20/40Mhz but just randomly thought i'd try set it to 20Mhz, reboot the router then set it back to 20/40Mhz again and that fixed the problem.

Hmm every few days it drops back to 150Mbps then i re-apply the 20/40MHz setting and it goes away, but its happened a couple times today already/

it's normal for wireless to fluctuate in speed based on signal strength.
