Default Steam Summer Sale 2012 (July 12 - July 23) Official Thread

This thread is for discussion of the Steam Summer Camp Sale 2012

For those new to Steam's major sales: My tips
  • Create a Steam account prior to the sale starting. Steam's servers are generally under heavy strain during sales and might time out.
  • Load money onto your Steam wallet before the sale. Especially if you use PayPal as some people missed deals last year due to PayPal funds not clearing in time.
  • On the first day of the sale (or before if you're keen) put all the games you're interested in into your Steam wishlist. It's a quick way to see if your favourite games are on sale or not.
  • New deals appear at approximately 3am AEST.
  • You usually have 24 hours + "1-2 hours of overlap" to purchase each daily deal.
  • The first day will comprise of several daily deals, sale-long publisher packs, and sale-long individual deals.
  • Publisher packs are generally the cheapest way to buy a lot of games - if you're interested in most of the games. So check them out on the first day so that you don't end up buying a few games on daily deals, then getting a publisher pack with the same games on the last day.
  • Publisher packs have never appeared as daily deals. If you're interested in one, you don't need to wait for the last day.
  • Daily Deals are the highest discount for individual games. Only buy individual games on daily deals, until the last day of the sale, then you're safe to buy the rest of your wishlist. That way you'll pay the lowest price.
  • Occasionally when the deals are first posted there'll be a pricing mistake. Eg Steam forgets to add the "Australia tax" to a title. You generally only have a minute or two to jump on these. Being already logged on and having money in your Steam wallet really helps in these situations.
  • Steam support is overloaded during the sale. By the time they respond to an issue, it might be too late. Make sure you have any outstanding issues (especially with payments) sorted before the sale.
  • You can compare Steam's regional pricing by adding "/?cc=" and the country code to the URL. Eg Steam's Australian store is "/?cc=au" Steam's US store is "/?cc=us" Steam's UK store is "/?cc=uk". Remember to change the store back to your Steam account's default store before buying as the transaction won't go though if the store's region and your account's region don't match.

Thanks to the bargain downloadable games thread I think I own every game on the steam list that I want.

Just a reminder that Amazon typically matches the US prices for games that are on the steam sales, it's a great way to get around the AU tax.

Subscribed... not really any games I've been waiting out for though, so we'll see.

It'll probably be full of those shitty indie games and farming simulators.

Honestly though... if you've played the other recent batman game, you're just getting a worse version of that with AC.

Dead island? pah, buggy POS.

I'll put it in big red letters so people can see, Chris you should probably do the same when the sale begins

Do not buy a game unless it's the daily deal, or the last day of the sale.
Don't complain that you bought it for 33% off on day 1 and it's now 75% off on day 4.

no need to wait for Steam sale - it's $24 at JB now (and you can redeem your key at GOG for a downloadable version.. also JB have 20% discount on games until Sunday, so it'll only cost you $19.20

yes I know it's not Steam redeemable.. but you can't get the physical things like the collector's coin from a digital version.

There were definitely some great bargains last year. Hopefully they'll match or beat the quality of offerings this year.

That sounds rather good...and updates are well managed with the DVD version I assume? For the Enhanced Edition especially.

yes, but seriously just buy from JB and register the copy on gog.com and download the digital version.... The Enhanced Edition patch is a 10GB download via the installer, or you can download the full game for 16GB from gog.com
