I did work experience at a restaurant about 8 years ago and I got to use a deli slicer to cut tomatoes, onions, everything. Except for meat. So much fun
Then I was introduced to reindeer and super thinly sliced bacon (slightly thicker than how prosciutto is cut), as well as korean barbeque a few years ago. Putting two and two together, I now have the kitchen space and the money to try getting one for giggles, but I have no idea where to start. I was going to look at one of the 'generic' ebay ones, because I will probably only be using it once a month, if once a week at most, so I don't need something stunning. I probably won't be able to get much money back from buying a new one and I'm not in a position to be able to get one 2nd hand unless I can organise a courier, which may blow everything out in terms of cost and effort. The ones I've looked at come in 8", 10" and 12" I don't want to go for the small crappy plastic sunbeam ones as I'm pretty sure those will end in tears a lot more than these ones. However I really don't want to spend more than $250 for a bit of fun, but the 10" one seems like a good middle ground. Does anyone have any experience or input into all of this? |

parent has the home model, works fine for what it does. You have listed the commercial end of the market there, so anything that suits both your needs and price will suffice.
btw, home sliced meat ftw.

Not sure of the quality, but there is a $50 Food slicer in the ALDI catalouge for the 7th of July. 190mm blade, Adjustable 0-15mm thickness. Might be worth a look.
EDIT: The ALDI one also has a full metal body. Last edited by lorak; 27th June 2012 at 9:35 PM. |

And if it fails in a year or whatever for some bizarre reason I'll start again. |
