That's quite a firmware update! I'll be very keen to update ours given the number of changes.

So hardware wise they "underclocked" the write buffer? and with this FW they increased it?...damn..

I keep hearing this though I doubt that it is related to hardware at all.

The Canon announcement states that they used memory management algorithms from the EOS-1 series to achieve the improvement. It seems more likely that they are now compressing image data on the fly when storing it in the existing buffer rather then unlocking all the hidden memory they disabled because they felt like it.

I can understand why you wouldn't do this with a non-flagship product on release. If you factor in the extra development and testing involved with adding this type of feature it was probably considered less important than shipping a working product on time.

Why has it taken so long to introduce custom file naming?

Would be nice to get a jump-to-100% button like the Mark 3. Looks like a nice update anyhow

Probably because most 7D owners don't consider it THAT important. It's might be nice I suppose, but it's not something I've ever actually wished for.

Noticed this on a few forums. People bought the camera with a certain feature set, Canon is giving a free update and people act like they're bastards for it. I don't get it. Personally I can't wait for this Auto ISO Limit on my 7D.

This is the one feature i have been wishing it had so i'm happy they are introducing it. I like the increased RAW frame rate but it isn't a huge deal, the other features aren't all that interesting to me.

I hope (but doubt) that they've allowed exposure compensation in M mode when using Auto-ISO.

+1. Auto-ISO would be great for me if they allowed exp. comp. in M, although I'm not sure which dial you would use to control that. As it is, Auto-ISO won't get any use from me.

Agreed. I wish that flash exposure comp could be applied to the ISO when the flash was disabled. It makes so much sense that it's crazy they don't do it. Wish the ML guys could jump on that one.
