Even a normal drive will start up quicker than that, so I assume an SSD should stay quicker - even with reduced performance.

It should also manifest after a month or two of heavy usage, if I'm correct. I don't see any of it on my M4's.

Or did you mean something else?
I'm talking about the specific issues being described, ie windows taking an excessive amount of time to come out of hibernation, and having hissy fits when restarting, especially in the same session after coming out of hibernation. My 60gb vertex2 was especially bad for this. My 120gb Agility3 just refuses to work with any power saving options at all. None. Not even a screen power off when idle, it will crash. And going into hibernation. Lol, kiss it goodbye for the next 10mins. All on latest firmware and win7 pro or ultimate.

wow, ok...good to know.
I was thinking of chucking an SSD into my laptop next. This made me thinking - I basically need it to be up instantly after a sleep, I just can't wait minutes (it's used for work with customers on site).

Damn, thought it might have been the problem. So does Akimbo...

I had never tried hibernate with my Intel SSD320. FWIW I just did shutdown /h and it went down and woke up very fast.

There's nothing saying it will affect every ssd/hardware combination, just a common problem I've noticed. I have a 240gb Sandisk in my work laptop, a Latitude E6410. I hibernates just fine, works with standard power saving features etc, has been the most well behaved ssd I've had to date.

Really just pointing out that these sort of issues are common with multiple ssd types. I wouldn't rule out getting one because of it though. Even if you were to experience these sorts of problems, startup from a cold boot using one of these is still very very quick.

I purchased my second SE 120gb on the weekend, I don't understand why my 2 year old AMD 140 Sempron/GA 8800 AM2 starts up and shuts down faster then my new Asrock A75M-ITX with the Triple Core FM1 cpu. AND the Sempron is only Sata II and the Asrock is Sata III.
