Hmph. I bought a digital version of something awhile ago and tried to sell the license for it 'cause I no longer used it or wanted to use it and everyone, not only the developer, ragged on me for it.

In one of the articles they mentioned that the developers could potentially charge to transfer the license. I guess this is their only recourse?
I can't imagine too many steam sales in the future (or indie bundles which let you pay as little as you want) as people could soon potentially stock up on hundreds of games and resell them once the steam prices are jacked up again. |

Well with developers charging for transfer of license, i thought they already do that with consoles. Once a games has been played online, if you sell it doesn't the new owner have to buy an online key? I play on comp so just going of what my mate told me.

I think this move to online only purchasing in a FORCED manner will just increase piracy. Most people I talk to don't want to play online anyway and I sell gaming consoles/.

In a way this is not so bad so long as sony/ms/nintendo/sega/whoever keep backwards compatibility in their new consoles so you can keep playing your old games. For example on psn if you buy a psone game it will work on the ps3, psp and vita (when the next firmware is released). So now you have a game that can't be lost, damaged and is playable on any of those consoles of your choosing. I definitely wont pay $110 for a game, I have in the past but they have always been bundles. What I do is I pretty much never play new releases, I always stay one or two releases behind when the games are much cheaper and the online community is still quite active.

Good stuff I guess but it wont work for everyone. For the people who want the fancy pants graphics and next gen stuff project Ouya will dissapoint pretty badly but it does have its good points.

PC has competing stores driving the prices. On consoles you'd have XBL and PSN and no competition, hence $110 for skyrim.
All this console DRM stuff is just rumours anyway. I'm fine with the idea of having all digital games on a console so long as the pricing is reasonable. At the moment it isn't. I've heard PS Vita games are reasonably priced though. |
