Default asus z77 sabertooth vs maximus V gene

i'm faced with the prospect of having to buy a new mobo

i smelt a burning smell the other day and my PC shut down, and has been shutting down randomly since then.. had time to take it apart today and found that there is a burnt socket/pin on the 24pin mobo header that the PSU connects to (psu connector is burnt too)

i've managed to bend it a bit and get it running stable for now, but i'm thinking about just replacing the motherboard

i'm currently using an asus p8p67 pro, running an i5 2500k at 5.0ghz 24/7

the maximus V seems to be all the rage at the moment, but i'm not sure about the mATX form factor.. i use a creative titanium HD soundcard so that would use the only pci-e slot which i'm not sure im comfortable with

what would you choose and why? money is no object

The sabertooth, purely because it looks freakin awesome. Other then that i don't know much, which makes me question why im actually saying this. Good luck!

Just get sabretooth. Will be excellent for your needs. I would highly reccomend you get a new psu at the same time.

i agonised over this for ages too (really wanted to get an asus board this time around) and went with the sabertooth.
main reason for me was the ridiculous red light all over the gene, I don't like red and don't want it in my build.

the sabertooth is a good solid board, the armour is a bit gimmicky but it's much better IRL that in pictures and it kind of disappears into the build, if looks are important tbh I don't think you can beat it

the full sized max boards are about to hit Aus shores.... don't expect them to be cheap.

I have the z77 Sabertooth, and it's been a really solid board so far.
The armour doesn't seem to negatively affect the motherboards temps, but the 2 40mm fans can be a tad loud. Set the fans to only turn on if the board temps go over 60° and it shouldn't be a problem. The z77 chipset is allot cooler than my old X58A.

played with a z77 sabertooth recently.

no clear cmos, and the battery being under the armor..
overclocking? you are gonna have a bad time /southpark ski instructor

otherwise seemed like a fairly solid board

edit: mehkat, with the LEDs on the ROG board, their bios usually has an option to turn some/all of those off. one of the first things i did on my previous ROG boards (CHV, R4E), lol

There's a good old fashioned jumper down the bottom of the board for that

its to clear the realtime clock.
not sure if same lol. wasnt much good to me, either way.

either way;
i just used the standby USB bios flash, and updated bios while i was at it - thats one way around it, lol.
it managed to get the board going again like that so possibly something more sinister occurred :/

never even occurred to me!
but it is still red all over though
the one thing about the sabertooth that sucks is it has a big green power LED in the middle of it, I made a little heatshink cap to put over the top

There's a mere 16AUD between them at Umart and if you are not going to use all the features that come with a full sized ATX board then the Maximus V Gene would be my choice.
