Smile Oh Core i7 3770T, where art thou?

Hi guys,

I've been looking for the Ivy Bridge 3770T which is the ultra low voltage version (45W). There is also a 65W and standard 77W model.

Anyway according to the 'List of Core i7' wiki it was supposed to be released in April along with the rest of the Ivy Bridge 1155 chips. I called Altech and surfed staticice without success. Ebay US has one for about $100 more than retail.

It's a 2.5GHz chip that turbos to 3.1GHz with all four cores active. 3.7GHz with just 1 core.

Anyway I'm wondering whether I should just get a normal 3770 or 3770K (would the K be better for underclocking/undervolting?) and undervolt/underclock it to 3770T specs?

The computer doesn't need awesome performance, just a cool and responsive system (yes it'll have an SSD).

Also, any matx board in particular I should be after for doing this undervolting/underclocking? Chipsets?

Thanks a lot, guys.

Regards,
Ben

What about something like http://www.techbuy.com.au/p/199293/C...37E31265L2.asp

45w tdp, 4c8t chip, and has a better clock/turbo clock.

If the Ivy Bridge 3770T is going to cost $100 more, it's not worth it IMO.

I measured my 3570k system at the wall socket & it had 60watt power consumption.
Ivy Bridge is already good for low power, maybe you can underclock it.
Recommend a z77 board.

Thats at idle, at load its a different story, ergo being a low power rated chip.

The 3570 also has no HT, which the OP is after.

Sure OK, 3770k if he wants.

Even my 3570k system @ load was 100 watts. That's amazing
economy considering the performance.

I'm just saying the whole Ivy line will be very thrifty with the power,
so if he can run a K model @ 2.5ghz would'nt that mimic the T version cpu.

Try and do a group buy with 9 or 4 others. they come in boxes of 5 IIRC. Most distributors don't bother getting them in because they can't forecast to sell a large amount. If you can put money down to reseller that you will buy 10 and wait 3 weeks for possible allocation, then you've got your shot. It might even work out cheaper than buying through US.

My question exactly. Though do I need a K model to lower the multi and voltage to match that of the T version?

Looks like the same chip as the 3770T but it uses the HD2500 graphics instead of HD4000, allowing the chip to turbo higher within the same thermal envelope/TDP.

Since graphics performance isn't terribly important to me, perhaps this xeon is the way to go. I've read that some motherboards support dual digital displays with sandy bridge and triple digital displays with ivy bridge. I'm simply looking at dual 1080p screens.

Did you see my above post which answers your question on how to get this chip?

Ahh no, sorry mate. But that xeon looks better for me with higher turbo/lesser graphics anyway. Thanks for the suggestion though

No problems. I'd just like to remind people that in most cases, the rarer CPUs are subject to min order quantity limits. So if you want 1, you may be hard pressed finding out (goes for Xeon's too). If you can get a group buy together, makes it more appealing (for the store you want to buy it from).
