Default H61 + Ivy Bridge = no onboard GPU

Had one of these days today where everything was nicely planned and ready to go. The goodies arrive and then you run into technical issues...

I have tested this with an Asus ITX and Asrock uATX board both using the H61 chipset. I flashed the latest bios to be compatible with Ivy Bridge (with a Sandy Bridge Pentium).

Then I put my new 3770 in these boards and they post, fans spin, num lock light works but nothing on the screen. That is with onboard graphics (VGA or HDMI doesn't matter).

But when you insert a dedicated graphics card everything works fine.

I never read or heard anything in this regard. Is this common knowledge / H61 limitation?

I did some more investigation...

I enabled Multi GPU in the BIOS (this was with the GTX460 installed) and it picked up the HD4000. I installed the drivers and rebooted.

Under windows I could detach the monitor, hook it up to the HD4000 and get an image (the extended desktop one).

I also tried setting the default graphics to onboard in the BIOS and still I can't get an image at POST / Boot or in the BIOS. However the machine boots fine and when Windows loads I get an image.

So I then removed the GTX460 and now just use the HD4000 and same thing. No BIOS screen, no BIOS screen but as soon as Windows boots I get an image...

Really scratching my head. I will contact Asrock and hopefully it's a simple BIOS fix they can implement.

But currently there is no way for me to do a clean install without having another video card in the system :/

Hmm the same thing happens to me on my GTX 670 if I use a Displayport cable, maybe try using a different type of cable if possible?

Hmm the thing is the same happens with the plain VGA (D-Sub) output. Seeing that it works well in Windows I am quite confident that a BIOS fix is needed.

I made a video and linked it with the issue report to Asrock. Hope they can sort it out
