As the title suggests, what are your Top 10 Retro games?
These are the games that, if you could only play 10, for the rest of your life, what would they be? My personals would be, 1. Donkey Kong Country (SNES) 2. Zelda Ocarina of Time (N64) 3. Zelda Majora's Mask (N64) 4. Super Mario All Stars / World (SNES) 5. Super Smash Brothers (N64) 6. Earthbound (SNES) 7. Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest (SNES) 8. Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble (SNES) 9. Beyond Good and Evil (PC/PS2/GC - XBLA now!) 10. Psychonauts (PC/Xbox) I'm sure your incoming posts will highlight how Beyond Good and Evil and Psychonauts aren't really retro, but they're too good to leave out :P You'll also probably remind me of some games I wish I'd added! |

Oh god, please don't bring that debate up again. OP your selection seems very restircted to SNES, N64 and 2 PC games, and they are all fairly recent.
Pfft where is Lesuire Suit Larry, Another World, Wonder Boy, Alex Kid, Bubble Bobble...</get off my lawn> |

Doom Doom 2 Halloween Harry Super Mario World thus far. There was always an FPS, doom era I believe, I have a fond memory of but no idea what it is called. All I remember is aliens/monsters of some sorts, lots of bright colours, levels that I thought were mazes (Had to get keys etc like Doom). I am sure I'd recognise a screenshot though. |

You know, I knew this would be a point of discussion... I even originally specified a 'cut off' point but then removed it so discussion would flow more easily

Too many to mention. I already started a "shmups" thread, so I won't go over all of those again.
Fighting games have always been a huge love of mine (Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting probably topping the list for me), and likewise scrolling beat 'em ups like Double Dragon, Final Fight, Streets of Rage, etc. "Metroidvania" style adventure games rock my world too. Super Metroid and the entire Castlevania series obviously, but also Wonderboy II, Wonderboy III: The Dragon's Trap, the later Adventure Island games, and more recently Shadow Complex (not retro, but certainly a huge homage to that genre). Platformers of course too - the Sonics and Marios, Psycho Fox on SMS (and the various engine remakes that spawned off it), the earlier Wonderboy and Adventure Island games, Ducktales on NES (so damned hard!), anything made by Virgin/Shiny (Earthworm Jim, Alladin, Lion King, Mick and Mac Kids (despite being a McDonalds game, it was good!), most of the Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck platformers, and dozens more. Every time I try to make a "top 10 list", even per genre, I throw my hands in the air and give up when I try and squeeze 25 or more into a top 10 list.
