Default MSI 680 Lightning 2nd bios not working

Hi all.
I'm sure i'm missing something so if anyone can help that would be awesome.

I got 2 x MSI 680 Lightning 2gb's, However I only have 1 installed atm due to replacing my PSU.

However my problem is when I flick the bios switch to boot with the 2nd bios, My resolution goes small and it doesn't seem to use the nvidea drivers.

I have tried:
1. swaping the card with the unopened 2nd card I had on my desk. Same Problem
2. reinstalling the graphics drive from msi site this time instead of nvidea site, (in progress as i type this, will edit in results)

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Hey Konata,

When you enable the second bios it treats it like your installing a new card, just reinstall your nvidia drivers and proceed to enjoy the awesomeness

Thanks for the info Scotteee, do I need to unstinall then reinstall, or just install the driver over top since its the same driver installer.

thanks again

Hey Mate,

Dont worry about doing a driver sweep as it'll be the same driver, just install over the top and you should be on your way

your a legend mate,
I feel like a idiot for not thinking of that. I was just assuming that it didn't matter which bios you installed the driver on.

Installed the driver again on the 2nd bios like you said and it worked flawlessly.
Now to knock up the power limit as I think power was the main issue with my over-clocking testing so far.

EDIT: dam still can;t get it 100mhz past the factory overclock on the core clock. Kombustor chucks a fit after abit lol Oh well

Hey Konata,

OK second thing you need to do now, is make sure you untick overclocking both cards in sync when you OC, it's better to oc each card individually.

First of all find the limit of each card, i actually completely disable the other card when doing this, you'll find you'll be able to OC alot more. As you add cards your oc'ing in sync will decrease with each card you add.

Find the limit of each, then put them back together and oc together, but per card not as one

P.S

also make sure you have enabled "unofficial overclocking" in afterburner, this is done by going into directory folder and finding msiafterburner.cfg, go down to the bottom and enable it to "1", then save, you'll need to grant proper access to file to do this, then restart afterburner and crank both power limit n volt slider to max, then oc away

Yeah i didn't have to do any of that. I just stuck the second card in and went, 1360mhz same as single card clock.. "synced" LOL

This is interesting, what benefit do you get by enabling unofficial overclocking?

Do you have to do this in Evga Precision?

Your gifted white ice :P yer these lightning's are a bit diff from ref models as they all seem to do pretty well, but in general i've found cards in sli/tri/quad tend to differ in max OC making overall synced oc a bit less.

Hey Fluid,

It's just a afterburner thing i think? Ummm basically with 7970's it allowed you to ramp voltage right up, with the 680's it wasnt needed really as it was all sort of locked, but with these lightning's it wouldnt allow me to adjust "volts" slider ( which doesnt really do anything anyway ) until i'd unlocked it

It originates from unlocking voltage control and clocking past bios limits in the 5000 & 400 series

Yeah all my lightnings were about the same give or take 5mhz core. Adding cards didn't reduce anything. A mate of mine has his lightning running at 1378mhz which is amazing and almost got him 13k GPU score but i couldn't get that high.

KonataFB, Try what Scotteee said as you should be able to go a lot higher than where your at.

Wow, just checked back (got distracted with the steam summer sale ect.)

I'll try the above now and see how I go, It's my 1st nvidea card since the Pentium 4 days, been with ATI for my last few cards.
currently at 88MHz GPU offset and 97 memory offset. (Current highest stable on core with kombustor, haven't played with memory much)

Anyone know the average stable overclock of these cards.

EDIT: was stable i should say after 30min of running Kombustor crashed
What program u guys use to test your clocks for stability
