Default Europe Accomodation

Hey, not sure if this is the correct place now. I'm looking for advice on where to stay in Paris e.g. what quadrant to stay in. We will be doing a lot of walking around the city to tourist attractions etc.

Our budget would be 100 EUR per night and staying for 4 nights.

Can anyone recommend where to book through, we have mainly been looking at booking.com, is there a cheaper alternative to them? Also looking for accomodation in Rome for 5 nights as well.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

100 Euros per night is quite a lot for accommodation in Paris. Have a look at www.accorhotels.com or for hostels www.hostelworld.com.

Generally accommodation is mostly cheaper than in Australia.

Me and the missus stayed at the Ibis in Paris, I can dig up the address if you want. It was like 70 Euro a night, 500m walk from the leuvre.

Hotel ibis Paris Grands Boulevards Opera 9ème
38 Rue du Faubourg Montmartre
75009 Paris, France

That's the one, highly recommended.

Thanks, that looks nice. How far is it to the Eiffel tour, is it walking distance or jump on the train?

Like most other big European cities, the train system is easily accessible and stupidly easy to use. I wouldn't worry too much.

Rome is a dump. Full of gypsies, thieves and beggars.

I would stay at a smaller city like florence and only stop past rome.

It's definitely that (we got robbed in the Metro), but its a fantastic city with plenty to see as well

As a warning though, there seems to be a lot of pretty bad hotels in Rome. Basically bordering on unhygienic, I've been there twice and burnt both times (even at an expensive Grand Mercure). So pay attention closely to reviews

Will keep that in mind, yeah have been reading some reviews and see bed bites is an issue.

In saying that would crime be any worse than paris or london?

I'd say somewhat worse..

We were very paranoid about Barcelona which has even worse reputation than Rome and didn't encounter any issues. Let our guard down in Rome
mere hours before the flight home and got robbed !

Ibis offers reasonable value we stayed at Ibis Paris Berthier Porte de Clichy it was a short walk to trains and slightly longer walk to moulin rouge and other attractions.

Opera is a great area to stay in Paris.

How are people robbed in Rome? Do they just take your bags and run off or worse?

PS we stayed here a few mths ago -> Emeraude Hotel Madeleine Plaza

It was great, but looks like it might have sneaked above your budget.

To the people who have been robbed, how did it happen? Was it because you had something loose or what?
