Default TVs with parental controls

I posted in WTB, but thought it might be worth opening a thread here.

I've never used parental control on a TV before, but apparently it's now a requirement for all TVs to have this option here. My Samsung Series 6 missed the memo, so I am now looking for a new TV with this feature.

Can anyone recommend a make/model that has good options for parental control? Ideally I'd have something I can log onto over the internet to configure and something that keeps logs of what the little buggers are watching through the day, but I'd be happy if I could just lock off the channels I don't want available, either automatically between certain times, or manually.

There must be a few different approaches to the tech. Does anyone actually use this feature? and if so, what TVs have the best system?

Why do people rely on technology instead of parenting and discipline?
When i was a kid, i was told not to watch certain shows, and i didn't.
I was told do not turn the TV on.. and i didn't.

if you can't trust them to do what they're told, then buying a different TV isn't the answer.

I agree. I am relatively strict when I'm at home. When I'm not on leave, I work four days a week though and my wife is responsible for all three of them. It's not that I don't trust her, I know what my boys are like. Kids the age of my boys test boundaries so it would be nice to be able to help her set them.

And frankly some of the rubbish and advertising, I would prefer to just be able to remove.

My eldest is 4.5 years old. It'll be a few years before he's reading manuals.

Back on topic, does anyone know of TVs that have decent parental controls? It really should be so easy to implement, but I've never even seen a poor implementation

Not interested in that. Don't have the time to screen and download everything. I have nothing against broadcasting. Just want to be able to say limit it to ABC and ABC2 and maybe even have a timer so it can't be turned on at certain times...

But yea, the ideal system would give you remote access to turn it on and off while I'm at work, and keep logs of what they've watched. Given the size of the market you'd think there would be some demand that warranted manufacturing for such features.

if you call Foxtel and nag them, they "might" be able to give you a Foxtel IQ2 box for $10/month

this will give you access to all of the FTA channels, as well as the digital FTA channels - e.g. ABC2/3, SBS2/3, Gem, Seven 2 etc. (except OneHD in satellite areas)

then you can pause/rewind TV, and tape anything on FTA (and series link etc.)

it also has a parental lock system, where you can set anything above say PG to require a 4 digit code

they offered this to me when i threatened to disconnect, not sure they'd offer to a new customer

What deams ideal to you may not be ideal to even be able to actually impliment for the various manufactuers i would even hazard a guess what you want isn't even possible.

I would talk to my wife if she is letting your kid watch other channels..

Wild guess not only don't you trust your kid but don't trust your wife... IMO you have bigger issues then tv content going on here..

Lol. No shit.

Yes, I don't trust my kids or my wife. The woman has to manage and feed a newborn baby, a 3 year old and a 4.5 year old on her own, as well as run the house.

You're right I don't trust her to be the perfect mother. It would be nice to help her to be able to prevent the boys watching shit.

*Bumpy*

So, does anyone have a TV with decent parental controls? Going to have a look at some in the shops soon.
