Little bit of background info, I've just come from a laptop the struggled to play bf3 min settings at ~25, to my new comp that sits on 60fps 80% on ultra.
Anyway to the main point of this thread, what do YOU feel are acceptable frames/second? |

20fps is fine for games like diablo 3 & Starcraft 2.
30-40fps is fine for games like CS. |

Used to be around 80, as anything below I'd get noticeable input lag. Now I've upgraded to a XL2420T 120Hz monitor... Anything below 120Hz is unacceptable.

60fps at a minimum for me (120hz screen) Dips to 50fps are bareable, but anything below that I can't stand. Don't know how people can play games (FPS especially) with 30 or less.

Depends on the game, any first or third persons anything below 40 is really noticeable. Others you can get away with 15 even.
Used to be fine with 30 but once you experience 60+ its hard to go back to.

If it runs at 40fps consistently throughout then i dont mind it. Its the dips that usually occur that kill it

My friend can't handle less than like 150 on his 60Hz, still can't understand why haha.
Perhaps it is the input lag. |

Depends on the game. Something fast paced requires more frames to be tolerable, but I can handle playing Skyrim at 30fps with no complaints. I had a housemate who could handle playing any game at a slide show. It was horrible to watch him play Bioshock, it must have been <20fps. I guess this is how the people who get used to 100fps gaming must see games running at 40.
DayZ runs like a pile of shit for me but I can handle it :P |

FPS games, as high as possible, 120fps+ /w a 120hz monitor would be ideal but in BF3 it's usually around 100 with only a single gtx 670 =/
Any other games, 30fps solid minimum is enough.

Thing is, mates that only play on consoles come over, we play a bit of xbox or even just on their old laptop and when i complain i can't play properly because of the fps they say its all bs and that it doesn't affect your gameplay..

Depends on the genre. Racing and FPS, where timing is everything MUST BE 60+ consistently, or you can really feel it. Other genres I can stand them dipping below 60 occasionally, but I'll drop the settings to get a solid 60 any day.
It's not an e-peen "oh, I must have 60 FPS" thing, I really can't stand playing a game with less and I can see it. Gives me a headache and makes playing a chore. That said, in my earlier PC gaming days, I finished the Crysis Demo at 5 fps on my GMA 945 notebook. Had to emulate some of the shader features on the CPU, lol. More of a proof of concept, though.
