Hi guys,
It's been bugging me for ages, but every search I do I cannot seem to find it. So basically asking for your help. Back in the early to mid 90's there was a software released for the PC that would allow you to create music tracks (much like garage band on the the mac) You should get pre done samples and arrange them to create a song/track. For the life of me I cannot remember what it was called. I know it would use general midi as I had a sound blaster card that had the wave table card installed) I thought it was created by Roland but again I cannot remember. Anyone able to help? Cheers Anthony. edit: I'm pretty sure it's not a DJ program like dance DJ edit 2: I remember it was geared towards the home user, not anything professional. I actually bought it and had lots of fun creating tracks. edit 3: it could be band in a box, but again not sure. edit 4: thanks for jogging my memory, you could create techno / dance tracks with this software edit 5: The software that I used had "pre done" music samples, and all I had to do was arrange them in an order that I thought sounded right to me. Using fruity loops as an example, I see that fruity loops allows you to make up a sample e.g. a string or guitar sample. The software I', talking about had pre done samples or guitar or strings.

Sounds like you are after a 'tracker'.
Can you find it in this list? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_audio_trackers |

Thanks for the quick response, I checked the list but sadly it's not there.
I'll edit my OP but I remember it was geared towards the home user, not anything professional. I actually bought it and had lots of fun creating tracks. Quote:

again I cannot be sure.
I appreciate the help, like I said every now and then I get the urge to search for it, but it always escapes me. I have a feeling it could be "band in a box" but without looking at the s/w running (I know very hard to see as they have modern versions) i just don't know. I will have to keep looking.

I haven't seen it for years - probably the last time I played with it was 99? It was like Mixmaster magic or something - one of the sample sets was something by smashmouth... |

I was thinking maybe Fruity Loops (now FL Studio) '97-98
Or maybe some of the software released by Propellerhead, like Recycle, Rebirth (and now Reason) again, mid to late 90s. Cubase is the only thing that springs to mind from the early 90s ('89). Probably not much help ![]() Doh! Cakewalk? Last edited by Mr Blue; 20th July 2012 at 8:55 AM. |
