Question What security programs do they need?

I was doing a clean up of my sons' computers. Sons are 16 & 11 yo.

Found out there are some unknown programs that got installed somehow. Some considered by NOD 32 as unsafe/infiltration. They probably got installed while they were playing internet games or visiting some unsafe websites.

They already have these programs in their Win 7 64bits computers.

NOD 32 ver 4 or 5
Spybot search and destroy
Windows Defender

I just added in Malwarebytes Anti Malware Pro

Interesting to see that different programs pick up different risks/infiltrations. So I think they do compliment each other.

I have cautioned them about taking due care when visiting websites.

Please comment if I need to beef up the security by adding or changing any programs?

Thanks.

superanti spyware and kaspersky FTW

be carefull about running too many real time scanners at the same time..
like norton, mse.avg etc...real time anti virus progs. as that can cause its own issues...

malwarebytes/spybot/nod are alll sooo 1995 to me
used them all in the past but have found superanti to be the best manual anti spyware and KAS to be the best real time antivirus

but yeah teenage boys..
glwt...
nothing u install will protect that pc..
just be prepared to reinstall one a week or 2...srsly

also might wanna disinfect the kb/m occasionally

You can save some trouble by switching their accounts to non-privileged ones so they can't inadvertently install malware. You can install future stuff for them with an admin account after you've vetted what they want to install.

Alternatively, dump Windows and switch to Linux.

How do I do that? At the moment they are the administrator. The computer boot straight into their account without having to enter any password.
So I can set up another administrator account and then change this current account from Administrator to User?

Once there are two account, anyway to boot straight into their accounts without having to click and Avatar and enter a password?

Ta

there is a way to make it auto log into one of the accts but its a 3rd party app iirc (possibly powertoys)
really u need to choose one of the accts at boot up

just go to control panel/user accounts and change the current accts from admin to standard and create an admin acct for YOU with a strong password..

and FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! dont tell them what it is!!!!

why do parents ALWAYS do this????

Just have two accounts - one for the kids that has no password and the other an admin account with a password (in Control Panel -> User Accounts, and set the type of account in there).

Auto-logging-in is not really necessary - they can just click on their account picture/name and it will login without asking for a password anyway.

yeah and its not very clear wot the diffs are..

i use Internet Security.

just AV is pointless
Pure seems to have a few extra features, but the kind of stuff most ppl would never use..password manager and auto backups etc..
One seems to just be compatible with phones/macs and tabs and stuff too

Thanks.

Kaspersky seems to cover spyware as well. So could it be stand alone or has to get another antispyware program?

i use kas as a real time scanner and also run superanti as needed, to be sure to be sure

i run a small pc repair shop and thats how i disinfect customer machines...
running both...
super sometimes finds stuff kas misses and vice versa..no prog is 100% perfect..
in fact a recent study showed that most AV is really only about 29% effective iirc.

it takes vigilance and common sense as well
2 things teenage boys do not have.

are their pcs in their rooms or in a common area where u can watch them search for pron?

Install K9 Web Protection to 'protect' them, then set it up properly with an Admin Password.

Oh yes, installed it yesterday on one of the computers. He is not happy that he now can not access Youtube without my permission. Ha!
