Default Google Nexus 7: Tech Talk, Apps and Flashing (and Jelly Beans)

Hey friends of the internets,

Another thread to discuss tech, apps and flashing for the Nexus 7. General discussion (about mainly shipping sucking Posiden's salty ball sack) please go to this thread.

Apps -
Here's an app you should get if you want to use the camera

Here's some drawing apps -
Sketchbook
Autocad

XDA threads on Flashing, rooting, unlocking, whatevering -
How to root and unlock your N7! (root the shit out of it)
How to get Tablet UI via decreasing LCD DPI! (might bork some apps, recommended to go with 160 DPI)
Not quite complete, but work on getting Tablet UI without decreasing LCD DPI (probs safer)

Hardware -
Docks
Stylus

Obligatory cute jelly bean -

Just a quick query - does rooting the N7 void the warranty?

Yes. You have to unlock the bootloader to flash an insecure boot image to expose a vulnerability to get SU access, in turn voiding warranty.

That's right it does. However you can unroot and relock the bootloader. No one would be the wiser.

Unlocking the bootloader will WIPE the device. Locking it however will not.

Always make a full back up before you do anything. If you software brick it, it's easy to fully flash it back to standard, update it and then send it back for warranty if you need to.

If you hardware brick it...it's done.
Know the risks before you do anything

Unlocking gets you the ability to flash custom ROMs and such. I'm pretty sure you need to have an unlocked bootloader to get CWM. Buts once you do have CWM, you can make nandroid backups (which are very useful if you have never done it before).

Using this ROM at the moment.

So who has these streaming videos over wifi? When I get mine I plan on setting it up on my desk streaming movies while I play games on my PC but I can't seem to find much information regarding it online.

Anyone confirm it will work and recommend apps? Probably just setup TVersity or something similar if it supports.

Anyone recommend a good streaming app similar to Air Video (iOS) for Android? Even better if it plays nicely with Air Video so I only have to run one server for both my iPad and Nexus 7?

Used some of my $25 voucher to finally buy 'Plex'.
Well worth it. So much better than AirVideo on the wife's iPad. I'm happy to run servers for both as only one of us would use it at a time

As mentioned in the post above, you should also try Plex.

'Dead Trigger' now free on Android due to 'unbelievably high' piracy rate

Dead Trigger Now Free from 0.99

I have installed Dead Trigger the graphics are not too bad. Try it and see on your Nexus 7.

Yep - as soon as I figured out how to restore to factory settings for warranty I rooted and modified the build.prop to enable the tablet UI.

Million times better, couldn't get used to using it in portrait mode and I think the tablet UI is a much better use of screen real estate.
