Tell you friend the Israelis designed it. The new architecture sprung forth from Intel's mobile CPU division, and replaced Netburst, due to its high IPC and efficiency.

Nothing to do with Apple, although Apple did approach Intel to manufacture a chip based on Apple's unique requirements. which Intel did, because the money was good. Business/turn-over/profitability is what it boils down to. Nothing else matters.

AMD managed to do it in the "old days" by using a very powerful microscope to reverse engineer the very early 486/Pentium era processors.
