It is possible that apple had an influence on its development by being a demanding client and offering financial incentives for Intel to really push hard on development. The same could probably be said for all other Intel's clients though.

I'd say someone either misunderstood the "designed in california" sticker to mean something beyond the case and operating system or steve jobs said something like "intel are manufacturing these for us" and that was misconstrued. I've never heard of apple claiming that they designed the Core 2 Duo and if they did really do it you could be sure they'd be bragging about it.

Nope!
That's why Intel kicked up a fuss when AMD decided to let 3rd parties manufacture it's x86 processors.

That's also why Via would be a valuable asset if a company wanted to buy them out, because they do hold an x86 license when they bought the license from National Semiconductor who in turn bought out Cyrix. (Hence why we had rumors of nVidia buying the license from Via a few years back.)

I know that you meant it as a joke but my friend sold 2 apple stickers (that came with his Macbook Pro) on eBay so it might actually happen!

Intel designed the core 2 platform internally with many studios (internally) providing assistance. Apple was provided with specific items unavailable to other OEMs. This also happened with certain low volt CPUs. I believe that these agreements last for several quarters and can be renewed. If not, Intel can then offer them to others. Apple obviously pay for the exclusivity.

Then they would sue the maker of this one even though they made it first . With doctored images as evidence of course !

No, they did not. The people responsible for the Core 2 goes back to the canceled Intel "Timna" CPU project in 1999. This was a P6 derived design with an IGP and integrated memory controller using RDRAM. The CPU was designed in Haifa, Israel. See Intel's Israel Development Centre (IDC).

"Timna" (canceled) => influence => "Banias" (Pentium-M) => improve => "Dothan" (Penitum-M) => Dual-core? => "Yonah" (Core series) => Precursor to Core 2...And the rest is history.

Apple began their PowerPC to x86 transition when they announced it in 2005. In early 2006, they brought in their first Intel based Mac products using Core series CPU ("Yonah"); MacBook Pro and iMac...In their "product refresh period" (about October in the same year), they transitioned to Core 2 series.

Apple doesn't directly influence Intel CPU architecture design. But they do pay a generous sum (large, long term contract), in order to be an exclusive customer. Say for specific low power silicon that are binned to meet Apple's requirements. In other situations, they pay to be a priority customer over others. Say if Intel has made a new generation CPU in limited quantities, Apple will gobble up the bulk of the supply. While OEMs have to wait a couple of months until manufacturing matures and picks up.

In the very long term (10yrs+), I suspect Apple will transition from x86 to ARM. This won't happen yet as ARM architecture isn't sufficiently powerful as Intel/AMD x86...Eventually, it'll allow Apple to design their own CPU and to get a third-party like Samsung, GlobalFoundries, or TSMC to manufacture for their specific needs. They already do this with their own A-series chips for iPad/iPhone/etc and getting Samsung to manufacture silicon for them. (While at the same time, they're throwing patent bombs at Samsung!)

Don't worry this is quite normal behaviour for BIG business. They will spend millions in court but earn billions in sales. Meaning it helps promote their products and services.

They will of course be doing this type of business for many years to come until one of them decides to play dirty and attack the other's bottom line. That's when it will shift into a higher gear of seriousness.

He didn’t like my barrage of evidence that contradicted his facts (I say facts but he didn't have any supporting documents) and logic and has blocked me. I don’t think I will be seeing him again.
