Default Prodigy build - Finally Watercooled

Hiya,

Build to be WC'd

Intel i5 3570K
Asrock H77 (Wait for EVGA Z77 mobo)
8GB Gskill RipJaw
Gigabyte GTX 570
120GB OCZ Agility 3 120GB
500GB Seagate 2.5" 7200RPM
LG DVD RW
Antec True Power 550w
180mm Magicool rad
EK Supreme LTX waterblock
EK GTX 580 Block
EK DCP 2.2 pump + Res
Corsair 120mm Rad

Firstly let me say that the Prodigy isn't quiet as flexible as everyone thinks it is, everything comes at a cost. I intend to keep my DVD drive.

So here are some of the issued that I found.

1. Top 2x120mm, Only vent with filters, Will not fit single 120 rad with a DVD drive installed (cables get in the way).

2. Rear 140/120, Unlikely to fit most 140mm rad without mods (top panel retention groove in the way)

3. Front multi fan fitments, No Filters, 180mm fan mounts are in the wrong postion to fit 180mm rad and keep the DVD Drive unless you redrill

4. Side panel with the buttons is really quite annoying, lights too bright, USB ports could be better and cable management is a pain.

As per my previous thread http://forums.overclockers.com.au/sh...9#post14596359 I want a silent build for web and video so I hope 1 rad will be enough.

Big thanks to Chris for helping out.

Update:-
System has been running a few days now,
Playing WOW the system runs at high 40's CPU and mid 40's GPU, this is with a very quiet setup, both fans are set to ramp up at 55 degrees CPU temp and its not happened yet.
Ran prime for a laugh and CPU hits mid 50's temps.

I did run with only the 180mm rad in the beginning but the extra 120mm Corsair only dropped the temps by about 5 degrees, but the corsair is a crappy rad.

When I get my new fittings and tubing I will be upgrading to my EK120mm.

More to come
basically, whack your drill out man redrilling is nothing...

cutting your case can be daunting. if your aim is silence then you will need more rad 2x120mm.

if not you can get away with it with the 120mm just expect it to be loud.

180mm rad = probably sufficient.

also do you NEED an internal optical drive? $30 gets you a slim external.

also slim internal drive should help with space also.

Lastly...

is your 120mm rad at the back?... if so mount it up TOP behind the DVD drive facing down...

then on the REAR 120 fan put this slim rad....

dvd drives are $20 find one thats the smallest.

also youll want some right angled power cables for the drives to give you more space

I'm not a fan of clutter so I prefer to have everything inside the computer and I want a blueray drive soon for movies.

I'm fine with noise when i'm gaming just not when im watching movies and browsing the net.

well just accept the cost then...

btw this is what you want. (both these allow internal blu-ray with about 30-45mm extra clearance or more so you can chuck in a second rad)

Option A (blu-ray reader $95)

Slot load Blu-ray combo drive $80

+
5.25 SLIM optical bay adapter (also stores 4x 2.5" HDD's) $15

Option B (my preference - Blu-ray Burner $112)

Brand new panasonic blu-ray burner $70 shipped

+
Silverstone Silver 12.7mm bay adapter also comes with hot swappable 2.5 slot. $42

This is a pretty nice setup, the Corsair 120mm rad needs replacing at somepoint, I just installed it because I had it and it fits the piping perfectly and gave me a 5 degree drop in temps. I have an EK120mm rad thats twice as thick sitting in my room but I don't have the spare $$ to upgrade to monsoon fittings and tubing atm.

I might just keep this for a few months then start a new project, Love building comps
