Default Speed and Timings

Looking to get some faster RAM that also looks good, just because I can. I currently have 2x G.Skill F3-12800CL9-4GBXL (it's an 8GB kit) - 1600MHz CAS9. I have a theme going so prerequisites include:

Black PCB
Red/Black in colour
2x4GB minimum
Preferably under $100

Been looking at the following kits:

http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?...ducts_id=18602

http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?...ducts_id=17522

http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?...ducts_id=17731

http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?...ducts_id=20093

and wondering which one would be the best combination of speed vs timings, and colour scheme.

RAM overclocking not important to me as I've fried too many sticks doing it in the past, so I will likely just run them at rated speeds.

you need quad? or dual/triple

ddr3 1.5volts 1600 10 10 10 30 t2 fine.. to 2133 11 11 11 30 1.65, like 1-2% dif in benchies, ram at 9 9 9 24 makes little diff, new memory cpu controller makes faster ram a waste of time

get more ram 16g (2x 8g sticks)

or if quad go 4x4g sticks

G.Skill Ripjaws X F3-12800CL10D-16GBXL 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3

$109.00
http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?...ducts_id=18886

im curr using in a z68 (2700k-at 4.8g ) run at 10 10 10 30 t1 1.5v

worth the extra 9$ win 7 will use it (turn page file off) or use 4g for eboostr for prefetch(faster than ssd) cache + or ram drive(primo)

some of it will be used as extra video card ram, when you have 1g or less ram on gpu = bf3 + 1920x1050

leaves you 2 free slots for 32g

I baught mine from msy $112 (port adelaide) a week ago

What could I possibly use 16GB for?

are you kidding, win 7 eats 4g ram up(if page file is off, just for it self)
(you turn page file off cause using it mega slow vs ram)

games can use main memory on top of gpu(video) memory for games if you video cards does not have enough(ie bf3) les than 1.5g ram on gpu (it does this for my 295)

1) you can lose up to 3+ g to gpu shared memory
2. win 7 big if you turn off page file...

3. windows will use extra ram as cache to speed up apps (disk cache+ prefetch)

bf3 need 4-5g free to play (page file off)

16g it a good amount, and their are many way to use it all up (for a few bucks more)

eboostr (liks a ssd cache for hdd/ssd) use 4g to speed up file acess(try it)

I have a small (by current standards) pagefile on my SSD for things that need it to work, prefetch/superfetch disabled, many unused services disabled, etc etc.

My install of win7 generally sits at 800mb-1200mb depending on how many days it's been running.

Yeah you need to use the XMP profile. If that doesn't work raise the VRAM voltage and loosen the timings a bit. Try it without no CPU overclock/overvoltage as well just to see if it works at all.

And for the record I've only hit 9GB usage for now, rendering stuff in premiere pro and having 20+ firefox tabs open, steam, etc.

Hello,

I've already done this at the first time but the computer reboot 3 times, and at fourth the screen waked up and the RAM were to this configuration : 1333Mhz with timing 9 9 9 21. I've subscribed a ticket to Asrock this is what i send to them :

Hello,

recently i bought 16gb of Gskill 2400Mhz and i mounted it into my computer, but my motherboard can't go for the 2400 wrote on the specification and restart 3 time then it boot.
The configuration is 1333Mhz in 9 9 9 21, i also tryed to do it manually and the last configuration stable is with 2200Mhz and the module ram take the timing automatically to 10 15 15 40 ( i assume its very slow for 2200Mhz), i have the 1.30 fw.

My question is do i need to flash in 1.50? or it will change nothing because the motherboard cant accept it definetely ? Do you have any advise or any change in the future to accept it in the future ?

Thank You.
And this is their answer

Dear customer,

The memory controller is integrated in the CPU and at default settings runs at 1600MHz maxium:
http://ark.intel.com/products/65520/..._80-GHz?q=3570
So changing the memory speed above 1600 doesn’t speed up the system, for these speeds you must also overclock the CPU, and in this case quite extreme, if you want to reach the 2400MHz.
Also not all memory brands are equally good, and our customers reports good results with Kingston memory.
Also it could be that the memory works different when you use a different BIOS version.

Kind regards/ mit freundlichen Grüßen,

ASRock Support
If somebody have a lead to this very weird problem, it is the first time my overclocking is failed and i don't know why ...
