Default Cormorant Fishermen

I love China so much that I went back there again in less than 12 months for a short break to ride the bike around the country side of Guilin, listening to frog croaking at night time and enjoy the awesomely cheap food and exotic fruits.

Here's a video of fishermen in action. Not taken by me!!

i like the shot don't get me wrong but i don't like the fact it seems you have used a flash???? makes the shot seem setup...... and for me it looks to unnatural did it really have a red sky???? hmmmm

Fair enough, I don’t know how to shoot this scene without a flash.
Maybe you could let me know how you could do things differently and more “natural” ?

Yes, the colour is natural. If you shoot landscape you would have realise that the colour is most intense about 20mins prior/after sun rise/set. Most landscape photographers do not have people in the scene, so it would be interesting know how else I could lit people in pitch darkness.

Certainly a stunning image, but i think the harsh rolloff on the flash makes it look a bit unnatural. Hard without anything to bounce off, or reflectors though. Perhaps a stofen or toilet bowl?

Good shot, flash is a little harsh but I wouldnt want it without, sky is too over powering maybe tone it back a bit.

Reminds me of Joey L's work when he was younger (thats a huge compliment btw)

Mate, I love it, it captures the scene beautifully. I think the vibrancy of the sky and high contrast make it really pop. My first thought was "wow". Well done.

Very much matching your style... which works Perhaps the flash is a bit too harsh but considering what you used, where you were and being in the moment I am never going to argue

You should share your other one too though, its also really nice.

Nah, not going to bother posting on OCAU anymore, too many keyboard warriors and “expert” photographers around.

lol, you upset bro? If you don't want criticism you need to qualify your OP - something like "Only positive admiration please, no criticism or suggestions"

Extremely striking photo, initial reaction is 'wow'. Flash is a bit too harsh for me. Sky is perhaps a bit too overtoned. These make it appear staged/over the top for me.

IMO it looks better in small

jesus dude you cant expect to put work online and everyone just go "wow its 100% perfect, wouldn't change a thing about it"

the fact of the matter is, after you take a shot you can always pick it apart and say "if only i did that" etc you just need to take it for what it is, and its a great shot but the feedback seems to be the same.

Flash is overpowered and sky is over saturated/to much and needs to be toned back ever so slightly, other than that people have said its awesome. If you cant handle that type of feedback aka 90% positive then its probably time to GTFO

edit: i think its an awesome shot, but if you COULD change anything, those are what I would change.

You know, until I saw the dummyspit, I was going to post about the things I liked in the image.

But now I'm just gonna leave this here:

Gel your flash!

Sure, it's your style to have mismatched white balance, but in this shot it just feels wrong IMO.

EDIT: Just went and found the other shot on Flickr. I love that one, it's epic.
