I have a Billion 7800N and I was having a bit of a read of http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1560476 and was just wondering if I could do anything to improve the below report.
I am not far from the exchange I believe I actually run on the main Burnie exhange. Tas,7320, Jorgensen ST Montello ADSL Status Code:

only you can really play around with the wan profile settings and then hit a right mix of speed increase and stability
best of luck ![]()

That was why I came here
, rather then fiddle I wanted to see if anyone had any solid ideas for SNR or anything at all such as unticking anything or ticking extra boxes.I saw some people in the thread I linked saying to untick the ADSL Mode's that you are not using in my case would be to leave the ADSL2+ ticked while those who had poor sync speeds were using G.DMT for stability because they had under 8mb down sync. I understand but what would you recommend starting at based on my report, like a base line SNR and if I go higher or lower what does that do. Also would it be worth unticking the other modes I am not using, I am not after a do this and this and your done but more of a guideline just any practical advice that might help I know that your settings won't be the same for me but I am not after a set of presets. Does that make more sense ?

to me if you have adsl2 then set it to that.. but rest of it is all trial and error to get it right for your line.

Alright thanks, I guess I will just google what those things do and the pro and cons for testing them.
Before I do though, what exactly am I looking for that tells me its improved, I know a little about it but not sure exactly what numbers should be going down or up. |

Status > ADSL Status> then see if it helps each time you change it Upstream 960000 Downstream 5572100 < you want this to these numbers are the ones you want to see improve.

Alright, and I want to see those two go higher or lower ?, and I need to mess with the SNR mostly by decreasing it correct ?.
Edit I think I worked this out, I just adjust the SNR and watch those numbers I want to see up and down speeds be higher but I also need to run speed test and do pings to check for drop outs and packet loss, as well as keep an eye on it over the next couple days for constancy. Right now my SNR is at 5. Last edited by ledhead900; 31st July 2012 at 2:17 AM. |

Unticking Annex M will give much faster downloads, but slower uploads. As for SNR, you could always try setting it to 1. This can be done by going to http://<ip/hostname>/snr.cgi. The lower the number the more potentially unstable it will be.
Also be aware that unless you save the config from the main page, the SNR value will reset to default when the modem is rebooted.

I actually tested it at 1 but between that and 5 did not give much better result on a speed test I was getting with factory default settings was giving me a the sync rates you can see in my report. Setting the SNR to 5 or lower gave me around the 18549 down margin.
Not too bad I went from 11.5mbs down in a speed test to 14.8mbs down. I wonder if it was stable though I repeated the tests 10 time each and got no stability issues though I notice the SNR 3-4 got me more constantly above 14mbs in the speed test compared to 2 or 5. Edit I will keep testing and trying things out, I am following this http://www.increasebroadbandspeed.co.uk/billion-7800n# as well as it is suited to the modem I have. your modem negotiates ONE modulation and syncs at that, you dont sync in all the available options simultaneously. lowering your SNR might give you faster sync but at the cost of stability. |

Appears alright so far. I disabled Annex M because I am not on a capable dslam that would use it. I have been monitoring fhe routers statistics and it has no packet loss or drop outs yet I will continue go monitor it over the week.
