I wanted a setup like that. But I really don't need anymore PC's in the unit ![]() The PS3 is doing a fine job of playing anything I throw at it. Only problem is the time it takes to transfer shit over the wireless network. Last night it took me over 30 minutes to transfer 8gbs of AVI files ![]() Didnt seem right. |

It only supports up to 802.11g - I'd say that's a pretty good time to transfer that much data over that protocol.
Consider hooking up ethernet, though - makes life so much easier...

How fast is that generally? Compared to the Ethernet? I have the ethernet cable like 30 cms away. I planned to remove for less clutter, but if it would substantially cut down transfer speeds, I'll do it

Faster than 802.11b but slower than 802.11n.
54mbps vs 100mbps (or 1024mbps if you're using a Gigabit switch at home). Being wireless, however, it's rare that you'd actually hit the maximum 54mbps speed anyway which means it's even slower again. It will. Use it and be happy.

![]() Going to set it up this arvo. I was wondering aswell, when a PS3 is performing updates, do they restrict the download speed for the updates? Or will it download at max rate (Unless peak traffic interferes) |

Honestly, you could order a pizza, have it delivered and consume it well before a typical update downloads and installs.

Still, i'm liking the performance of it so far. What do you think of the PS3 media thing that was linked a couple of comments above. |

I use PMS all the time - it's a great little app. Not 100% perfect, especially where seeking is concerned, but it works with about 95% of content.

kk, I might look into it. But considering I transfer all data that I'm watching onto the PS3, will it even be worth it?

Well, that's effectively what you do with PSM already, except you're just keeping all your media on a PC and it automatically appears as playable material on your PS3 - click and play. No manual copying involved. PSM just converts the video into a format that the PS3 understands and chucks it over the wire (which is why PSM is used to play thinks such as MKV files because the PS3 does not natively decode the MKV container).

The problem with using PMS is that it means I have to leave the origin PC turned on to continue playing the media. Which kinda defeats the purpose.

If the PC and PS3 are connected to the same monitor/tv then yes I suppose it would. However, if the PS3 is in a different room or connected to a bigger TV then it has many uses.
