Same here. It offers to change your live ID from hotmail.com to Outlook.com but I was weary of what other services that would affect like Xbox Live. So I just got myself a firstname.lastname@outlook.com alias.

Did you try it in every other browser or are you happy to blame Microsoft because you had an unhandled exception/infinite loop in the browser/plugin combination you used?

At work atm... tried it out yesterday in Chrome and it was not behaving as expected and many links did not work. Thought it might just be a day 1 hiccup. So tried again today and still no dice. Tried in IE8 and it is even less responsive. Tried in Firefox 9 and more functionality is present... but still can't view emails.

Either way, I should check it out at home to make sure that work doesn't have some weird stuff going on that doesn't play nice. At least in firefox i managed to get me some aliases that I can reserve for work purposes etc.

So suggesting MS is doing something shonky with it's compatibility favouring it's own browser is not entirely founded.

In my case, on a work machine. IE8 was the worst (can't log out, can't do anything, but could log in), Chrome was at least able to log out, but not much more beyond that. Firefox was able to access more mail settings and stuff, but still can't view emails. If I can be bothered, I might give it a try on my galaxy tab 7.7.

Edit:
Also on all browsers, the ninemsn bar at the top has messed up the layout making the top most portions of the client hidden beneath the main bar.

fuck this.

GMail has been perfect from day dot.
LOL Are you slightly retarded?

Logout is in the EXACT SAME PLACE AS GMAIL.

You know in GMail in the top right corner. Click your name. Sign out.
Go to Outlook in the top right corner. Click your name. Sign out.

Looks good but seems to have a minor incompatibility with chrome (works fine in IE, no surprises there). The blue bar at the top half covers the search box and the checkbox for selecting all emails.

Does Microsoft have an authentication app to improve security (similar to Google authenticator).

MS & Google never test in Opera. Googles stuff works better in Opera than MS stuff. But both are pretty bad.

Site works 100% in Chrome/Firefox/IE9 for me.

Also:

If you get your own @outlook.com email. There's 0 advertising. (alias doesn't count)
If you login using hotmail or any existing live account. You get advertising.

OP's article was rather vague on that. Further reading says it is a new site. not a rebranding.

While i can still see confusion on which "Outlook" you are using. Everyone knows "Outlook" is a MS product, so when more and more people start saying my email is "outlook.com" the brand recognition is already there.

To be fair Opera has alwasy been the most sensitive of browsers (or the most unforgiving if the site is not coded well)

Opera and Chrome are my main browsers.

Couldnt get my first.last name, but got pretty close. (its a very common name)

I had a similar issue but either a quick refresh of the whole page or entering and exiting an email fixed it for me and it's been fine ever since.

Microsoft is continuing to impress me, they've really turned their shit around.

To be fair?

Seriously Microsoft NEVER FUCKING PROGRAM THEIR SHIT TO WORK WITH ANYTHING BUT IE. They give you reduced functionality in every other browser for everything, ever used Outlook Webmail outside of IE - oh that's right reduced functionality, whatabout sharepoint? Not supported, umm Dynamics CRM, not supported.

I am not surprised at all that outlook.hotmail doesn't work outside of IE correctly.

Hotmail actually works quite well in Opera, but it's slow as shit.

Their Android Hotmail app is passable but rubbish compared to the GMail app.

FUCK THEM, GMail ftw.

I know you have used Opera since the days you had to pay for it. So have I.

How many sites have had issues with Opera? Have all these sites been owned by MS?

Opera has always been the one browser that follows the standards to the letter. The rest allow for a sloppy coding or old/obsolete tags. But they are also the most innovative of all the browsers so it will remain my main browser.

If outlook.com did not work on other browsers then sure. MS is trying to limit access to IE only. But its Opera that it only does not work on.

I might update my Opera retest and log an error log with them (as i have done with other sites that Opera does not work on)

If they played well with others (like Google does) I'd care, but unless you use an MS browser on an MS OS GMail is a better option, this should come as no surprise.

I also have a negative view to outlook.com because I watched a Uni roll it out recently and it royally fucked any attempt to access mail any other way other than through the browser. When you did get it working it was unreliable and convoluted to setup.

It's very much an our way or the highway system, I still carry an old HM addy around (she's 16 years young). But in no way am I enthusiastic about this new system. GMail is so flexible and usable in comparison. Flexible to me means I can access it where and how I want. Not how MS dictate I should use it.
