Default EAX software not seeing xplosion cinema

I had to remove and replace my xplosion cinema and when I put it back, there was no sound. Win 7 says the card is working OK, but I realise that may not check the hardware. The 3D sound programme is not recognising the card, with the main Volume slider being blank, with no controls. I have tried downloading and intalling the latest software version, uninstalling and reinstalling the card etc. I also placed the card in a different slot. None of that made any difference.

I am concerned that the card has been damaged, but I was wondering if anyone had any other ideas. I have removeed and replaced this card quite often with no similar trouble.

Any ideas appreciated.

Uninstall software pack, uninstall drivers.
use driver sweeper to clean out anything left over from uninstall.

Remove card and check all contacts a free of dust and that nothing is visably damaged

Card back in and reinstall drivers and software, try again

Thanks for the reply. I will run through all that. I had pretty well done what you have said, but I will make sure I do it in a more ordered manner (I was pretty PO'd and probably not at my best form to diagnose! )

There was a fair bit of dust in the PC, now you mention it, so that is something I will definitely look into.

Yeah, give the slot a squirt o' canned air.

Win 7 tends to be a bit more robust with drivers not hooking up with devices. With my X-Fi, if it's been one of those days where driver and device aren't talking to each other, I find that simply going into Device Manager and hitting either "Scan For Hardware Changes" or disabling then re-enabling the device gets it working perfectly again.

Thanks for the reply. Not sure if I get what you are saying. The trouble is that Win7 sees the card fine (or says it does) and says it's working. But the proprietary software will not recognise it.

Win 7 had default universal drivers, which your card will use, no dramas, but only at the bare-minimum level - you'll hear sound of out it, and that'd be about it.

For any higher functions, you'll need the required software - the proper drivers.

However, since MS saw that 99% of nerds out there are retards, and whinge about sound, and don't like sound cards, it decided that the bare minimum was all that was necessary, so when the proper drivers get misplaced and Windows reverts back to its universal ones, it doesn't report it as an error. It just says "Yup, she's all good". Card's detected, sound comes out, ergo it must be fine. (In other words, Windows will view the proper drivers and universal drivers as equally valid).

Re-detecting the sound card in the Device Manager normally hooks it up with its lost drivers.
